Scozzafava takes on Palin
Washington (CNN) – Dede Scozzafava, the woman who has become the symbol of moderate Republicanism, is taking a shot at former Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, the woman who has become the darling of the Republican Party's conservative grassroots.

In a new interview, the state assemblywoman also lets loose on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who chose to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Scozzafava, her party's official nominee, in the closely-watched race in New York's 23rd congressional district.

The Hoffman campaign and many of his supporters targeted Scozzafava on some of her more moderate views, particularly on social issues.

The growing conservative support for Hoffman, including the endorsements from Palin and other prominent conservatives, eventually led Scozzafava - who had been hand-picked by local party leaders - to drop out of the race just days before Election Day.

"How can Sarah Palin come out and endorse someone who can't answer some basic questions?" Scozzafava told the Washington Post. "Do these people even know who they are endorsing?"

In the interview, Scozzafava - who ended up backing the race's victor, Democrat Bill Owens - sounded a bitter note about how she was treated by members of her own party.

"It was organized," Scozzafava told the Post about the attacks against her by Palin, other prominent conservative figures, and conservative advocacy groups. "There is a lot of us who consider ourselves Republicans, of the Party of Lincoln. If they don't want us with them, we're going to work against them."

2. Well, since Palin can't answer simple questions, either,
it's clear she's just supporting a like-minded candidate.

4. "How can Sarah Palin come out and endorse someone who can't answer some basic questions?"
She asks? Palin herself couldn't answer questions when she herself was running for Vice President...and Scozzafava asks>>>"How can Sarah Palin come out and endorse someone who can't answer some basic questions?"

9. Dede is still an "R". Therefore, she's *still* one of them, and its hardly up to us
to encourage her and other moderate Republicans to make themselves heard. Its their internal struggle, and they can deal with it -or, hopefully, NOT deal with it (Palin-Jindal in 2012!). Sure, Democrats have some internal conflicts- but not to the extent that the other side does.

10. Hoffman's inability to answer basic questions makes him an uber conservative
He's one o' them thar Renegade Rogue Mavericks who can't be fenced in by simple facts and reality. Scozzafava should know that.

11. She's missed the point of these people
It's not about positions, policies or even politics. It's about belief and it's about belonging to the cult. If they perceive you as being outside the cult, they will do whatever is necessary to purge you from politics.

Don't bother using logic, expecting any of them to know about a district or being able to name a newspaper in their state. All that is irrelevant to the core issue, whether or not they're part of the cult.

That is what we're up against and they're the biggest danger this country has ever faced. Underestimating a zealot's capacity for sheer evil is the worst mistake we can make at this point.

Unfortunately, as the vote for Stupak's amendment showed us, the cult is making inroads into the Democratic Party, as well.

'Scozzafava' turns into epithet
It's a Grand Old Purging as moderate's ouster spotlights Republican dysfunction

By Jason Horowitz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. -- Over Halloween weekend, Dede Scozzafava morphed from a rosy-cheeked Republican mom to a political figure of speech.

"My name's a verb now," she said.

A little-known state assemblywoman with moderate Republican views and a mouthful of a surname, Scozzafava's bid for an open seat in New York's 23rd Congressional District drew trash talk from conservative leaders hoping to purge her from the party, mash notes from White House-dispatched Democratic suitors that included Bill Clinton, and the unblinking gaze of political professionals fascinated by her role as the problem child for a dysfunctional Republican Party.

Even as she now hopes to return to her normal life of local politics, laundry and choir practice for next month's big performance of Bach's Christmas Cantatas, the political forces that swept her up have not entirely let her go. Last week, while watching a news show about the next sharply contested Senate Republican primary in Florida, her parents reported that one of the commentators asked whether the moderate was in peril of getting "Scozzafaved."

Much more at link. It is realllllly interesting
