Affordable high tech/energy efficient housing for all
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 12:37 PM by francolettieri
I just recently saw an amazing new product available that I thought highly of. It is a housing structure that consists of an extremely energy efficient dome 12 feet high and 14.5 feet in diameter. There were designed to house up to 6 people in the most brutal of conditions (desert heat or arctic cold)but I think housing 1 or 2 people is much more realistic. I think they have a lot of potential to provide comfortable housing for poor people, or people who are always out and about and don't want to spend a lot of money on housing. These high tech domes could be easily set up in backyeards and parks. My favorite idea to provide cheap affordable housing for alot of people without taking up a lot of land would be a high rise. A multiple story building with a cement floor, with these domes arranged neatly in rows. Yes that would be an eyesore to a city skyline so there would have to be something put around the outside of the building to make it cosmetically appealing like solar panels or something attractive and futaristic looking. These "highrise dome living community's" could serve a variety of different demographics.....Poor people, mentally ill, mothers and their children, or professionals like me who are always out and about and only use their home to sleep, watch tv, and use the internet. You don't need a lot of space to do that!! These highrise dome communitys would probably work best in cities with fairly mild weather (palm tree cities) The website for this particular product is www.intershelter.com
It has been getting a lot of publicity and probably has bright future.

BTW: forgot to mentioned these communities would also have to be designed in such away that they can be monitored by security and be able to hold up to storms and hurricans (gulf coast states)

3. approx $12,500
they arn't exactly cheap, but still a lot better than the cost of renting an appt, the company is selling bathroom and shower kits starting in a week or two, plus giant communities of these would probably have bathrooms or showers separate fromt the dome. I definately think these are the way of the future, for people who can't afford housing or people who are constanly on the go. Yes they can be hooked up to a power source.
