Ray Comfort is dropping his ID-ified Origin of Species bomb a day early
To counter the counterattack planned for tomorrow, his original ID-Day. Are there any DUers at universities where the Comfortites are out in force?

From Pharyngula:

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/scienceblogs/pharyngula/~3/nlRM0tofkuA/ray_has_a_change_in_plans.php

Apparently, because people had plans to counter some of Ray Comfort's Origin giveaway — which was announced to occur on the 19th — Comfort is giving them away today. I've been getting reports from various universities that his minions are at work right now, as in this photo from Oxford.

Get out and grab yours now!

1. If he's giving them out for free
You can use them as door stops or kindling.

2. After you rip out the first 19 pages or so it's the regular book.
So you can fix their little jaggoff easily.

3. There is nothing wrong with the book. Just remove the propaganda attached.

5. I don't know if the book is any good. I've heard it's abridged or otherwise flawed.
It doesn't include Darwin's introduction, for example. One early version of it was at least two chapters short and was missing Darwin's famous branch drawing:

9. Why not scamper on over and grab a few? That Way we can see if it only needs a flawed "introduction
removed or if they have committed real copyright infringement.

10. The beauty of their plan is there is no copyright infringement on a work in the public domain.
Of course the idiocy of their plan is the plan itself.

17. Nobody owns copyright on 'The Origin of Species'. It's way too old for that.
Anything published before 1923 is in the public domain, and cannot be copyrighted.

4. I want one so badly.
You never know, they may be worth a mint some day. Perhaps after Mr. Comfort has an epiphany and realizes his entire life's work has been a joke. I wonder how many people will be picking these up with the sole intention of skipping the fictional preface.

16. I know, it sounds like a fountain of ironic humor.
It'll probably be a kitschy collectors item in 20 years.

6. Perhaps Dr. Dawkins (or Chris Hutchins) should
publish a copy of the Bible with a forward . . .

11. But the Jefferson Bible is worth reading
and makes some type of rhetorical sense, even if you don't agree with it.

Darwin, OTOH, must be spinning in his grave to have his magnum opus destroyed so.

13. Yep.
An interesting take (as is the "Woman's Bible" written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton).

I think a Dawkins or Hutchins foreword would be a hoot, though!

8. This is just so strange to me...
If someone handed me one of those, I'd thank them, then rip out the propaganda pages right there and hand them back.

12. I'm almost curious
not curious enough to buy it mind you, but I'm almost curious about what they thought they should change.

14. No change, AFAIK, just a preface by Ray "Banana Man" Comfort
I would love to have one, asuming it's an unadulterated Origin.
