I am concerned that the new "guidelines" for mammographies
will hurt the health care reform. "You see," they will say "what happens when a government agency or a task force tells doctors what to do?" I've heard that some insurance companies are already changing their policies to accommodate these recommendations.

With limitation on abortion and now on early breast cancer detections, women do move to the back of the house as far as medicine is concerned.

For years, many of the drug studies were conducted only on men. Symptoms of heart attack were based on what men experienced and treatment was more immediate on men coming to the hospitals suffering from heart attacks. Even stress test - running on treadmills - did not accommodate women with large bouncing breasts.

It appears that women health is no longer of major concern to the decision makers.

1. Anecdote - discussion with an insurance rep.
I was just getting my oil changed at lunch, and the TV in the shop had Headline News on. The crawl showed a blurb about the guidelines and the rep spoke up, saying how bad this group's recommendation was. He mentioned that these things are used by insurance companies to determine what treatments to cover, but that the company he worked for would not be changing their policy based on this. He said it saves the company money to find and treat things early. Later on the crawl showed that Sebelius had said that this recommendation is not US policy or something like that, and he commented that it was good that she said that, that the gov't was distancing themselves from it. He was quite outspoken about the issue and clearly perturbed.

I was surprised.

3. You would think that this will make sense to cover them
it also makes sense to cover abortion since it is "cheaper" than maternity and then pediatrics.

Good for that rep. I hope he knows what he is talking about.

4. But of course. And Obama and Sebelius can deny any connection or endorsement
until they are blue in the face. Will make no difference to them.

5. On CNN... "Whats behind the new mammogram recommendations?"
Viewer answer: "Follow the money Jack. In a review of the panel, several are on the payroll of pharmaceutical companies and 8 are Republicans". We need to get Rachel Maddow on this...asap!!!

6. Interesting. Yes, I agree. We need to get the names of the individuals
and do some digging.

Glad to realize that Sebelius is making sure that the "government" is not behind it. Let's make sure that, at least government programs will not adopt these guidelines.
