Hey Florida DUers: Can Meeks win the general election
How big an underdog is he against either Crist or Rubio??....I'm assuming Rubio is TOO far right for a general election, given how bad Katherin Harris lost to Bill Nelson in 2006, (she lost by 20%)...

Good summary of the upcoming primaries for next years senate/governor races here:

1. My sense is Crist will smash Rubio despite twhat Freepers want
As much as I like Meeks, I don't think he can win a General election yet.

Alex Sink has an excellent shot for taking the Governor's seat though...

2. That last sentence sums up his chance(s).
Although he's in Congress his campaign is starting from the ground up. Rather than pay the filing fee to get on the ballot he's doing it via petition. I'll take slow and steady over loud and empty any day.

3. I agree about Crist...
I think he will take the nomination...he's pretty popular there. I lived in Miami for 10 years and was active in the Party there; don't underestimate Kendrick Meeks. His mother is very popular in a lot of areas in Miami, including the Cuban community. With a huge African-American population in the Tampa, Jacksonville and Panhandle areas plus the growing Puerto Rican population in Orlando, Meeks could have a chance but it would take an Obama-like effort to get the turnout.

Meeks is a good guy; I was worried about his being able to be his own man, he followed his mother, Carrie Meeks, into Congress. He has proven he can be, I have been impressed with him. Wish him luck but it won't be easy.

Alex Sink on the other hand should have run for Governor against Jeb Bush instead of her husband Bill McBride. I was a Reno supporter but once she lost, he was our only hope. Not much hope there. Alex is very well respected and she could definitely win.

Ahhh...Florida politics. Now I live in KY...working on getting Bunning seat, too bad we didn't have a better candidate in 2008 so we could have ditched Mitch but maybe next time.

4. As far as name recognition, I think many non-Floridans think of
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz...I don't know how popular (or not) she is in Florida, but she is rather well known...
