The radio station I listen to started playing Xmas music last THURSDAY, Nov. 12.

That's way too early in my book....after Thanksgiving is soon enough, thank you.

How 'bout your local stations?

2. Yep. It's started on some of them.
After Thanksgiving is TOO soon, IMHO. I say wait at LEAST until December- preferably, a couple of weeks before the 25th.

10. Not even close to being right
Santa comes on Thanksgiving morning, during the parade. He has for decades. That's when the music should start.

15. Too soon for Christmas 24/7....
by the time Christmas eve rolls around, most people are heartily sick of hearing the same dozen or so songs repeated ad-nauseum.

3. Think of the poor people who have to work there.
Goes for retailers, too. There should be a labor law.

4. It's the War on Halloween! Each year, the Christmas warriors sneak closer and closer!
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 09:47 AM by Tesha
By next year, they may have closed-in for the kill!

Datapoint: In the Boston Metro area, at least two of the
nominal pop/oldies stations switched over to Christmas
a few days ago! Gag! I wish their programming directors
would get run over by a reindeer!

14. There is a war on Halloween in my town
Our local Christian radio station plays Christmas music on Halloween. After Halloween is over they go back to their regular programming until after Thanksgiving. I find it hilarious. I laugh my ass off when they do it.

5. the station i listen to started on monday. i was surprised to hear it already...
but i don't mind personally. i had filled a mini sd card with christmas music to add to my sansa so i could intersperse it with my regular music anyway. i thought they would start sprinkling more generic christmas music in with the regular rotation before going whole hog with it.... but it's fine with me. the only thing that bothers me about the arbitrary start of it is that it makes it easier to go even earlier next year. after thanksgiving is a nice time because you have that natural barrier there.

6. I'm sure if I looked, I'd be able to find it.
Reminds me of a scene from the "Cuckoo's Nest" where the pretty music is playing and the drugged citizenry is wandering only as expected and isn't all so well cuz its so orderly? I guess we're supposed to wander into the malls and get coaxed into spending more of what we don't have to convince ourselves we're good people.

I've decided the best way I know to celebrate the season is to boycott the biggies! I've got a made in my state kind of store and a great many locally owned options as gift giving venues. No Kohl's, No Macy's No Sears No Penney's, No nothing known nationally. If a lot of us took this approach, we could find the spirit of the season with a better sense of satisfaction.

8. Not a radio listener, but the local tv affiliates
started with ads, Christmas cheer, etc. before Halloween.

I'm not a fan of Christmas music in general, but I do have a new favorite song for this time of year:

Notwithstanding, as much as I enjoy Monty Python, I sometimes find Eric Idle an insufferable twit.

9. I think Xmas music starts next week on a local station here in Phoenix.
Last year they started the day after Halloween. I'm not kidding. I think they got a lot of shit for that and rightly so.

13. I heard "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" by Nat King Cole
on the way home from work Tuesday. While it may be early I can't say I was sorry to hear it.
