Very, very strange story. This has
What The Eff written all over it. Read the whole article if you get the chance. I wouldn't take it seriously if they didn't appear to have so much actual evidence of this on at least two separate occasions(see the excerpts below). From
MSNBC:
LIMA, Peru - Police say a gang in the Peruvian jungle has been killing people and draining fat from the corpses to sell on the black market for use in cosmetics, although medical experts say they doubt a major market for fat exists.
--snip--
Mejia said two of the suspects were arrested carrying bottles of liquid human fat and told police it was worth $60,000 a gallon. The fat was sold to intermediaries in Peru's capital, Lima, and police suspect it was then sold to cosmetic companies in Europe, Mejia said Thursday, but he could not confirm any sales.
--snip--
At a news conference, police showed reporters two bottles of fat recovered from the suspects and a photo of the rotting head of a 27-year-old male victim. Suspect Elmer Segundo Castillejos, 29, led police to the head, recovered in a coca-growing valley last month, Mejia said.
--snip--
Mejia said police received a tip four months ago that human fat from the jungle was being sold in Lima. In August, he said, police infiltrated the band and later obtained some of the amber fluid, which a police lab confirmed as human fat.
Is their anyone on DU in...I dunno...the cosmetics industry who might be able to comment? Honestly, I can't imagine why human fat would be any better for...
whatever...than animal or vegetable fat would. I can think of LOTS of reasons why any human product would be very unattractive for any kind of consumption, cosmetic or otherwise- even if it were legal somehow. And they kind of money involved...at even at $6,000 a gallon (1/10th the price they list in the article) it still seems wildly absurd to pay such top dollar for something which people are literally paying good money to have removed from their bodies(i.e. liposuction).
Can anyone shed some
What on this
What the F*ck story?
Assuming the motive (cosmetics) is bullshit, but the market exists(i.e. these people are actually getting paid good money for this stuff), then what other use on earth would any industry/whatever have for human fat?
Anyway, creepiest story of the day...
hopefully.
