2. You shouldn't lose faith in the President
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 08:46 PM by AllentownJake
He is a man you know, he is going to fuck somethings up. I'd focus more on what made you lose your faith and trying to find ways to communicate to others why that issue is important. You really shouldn't have placed that much faith in one man to fix all the world's problems. Pretending the problems don't exist though, isn't healthy.

I'm going to let you in on a secret, I still personally like the President...but don't tell anyone certain people's heads might explode, generally the people who call me a "hater"

6. Keep your head up
He has a big mess, but pretending it isn't a big mess and everything that he is doing is fixing he mess isn't good for you, and it isn't good for him either.

He doesn't need followers. He never was one. If you are losing faith in his abilities focus on the things that you like about him as a person.

There are days, I think he was over his head and really should have waited a few more years to run for President. The fact is he didn't and he wasn't really that less experienced than most of his opponents. No one can be prepared for this time in history and he has to do somethings that frankly would make you and I throw-up.

He isn't going to fix everything, but if something in our society is making you mad (you can tell I'm pissed off about finance) than you should talk about it and look for ways you can do something about it.

18. Half of their people are living in utter poverty
I highly doubt they are that worried about that. We've been pushing them around for 30 years. In order to get as far as they have gotten, they have poisoned their environment, abandoned their principles, and tolerated our bullshit.

They have some leverage now, and they are starting to use it. It might have been an idle threat, but they are really hurting right now because of our behavior and our failure to keep our house in order.

32. The borrower is slave to the lender.
The more we borrow from China, the more influence they will exert over our affairs.

After meeting privately with the Chinese leaders, and hearing what they have to say, it is logical for Obama to want to try and reduce the debt.

I love every word you just said here. I'm guilty of seizing on one thing at a time and fixating on it to death.
Pres Obama doesn't have that luxury.

Too, I've been so angry at the Wall Street Ties That Bind, and yet-- until the core system of campaign finance and lobbying is ever fixed-- which I don't expect to see in my lifetime-- well, I shouldn't have been surprised at so many of his economic picks and how it's been goin' since.

It really is possible to like the person of Obama, the man, but not all of his policies and to be angry/frustrated/worried about **issues.**

70. Well
FDR interned the Japanese people, caused a mini-recession by listening to some idiots in 1937, ignored the civil rights movement, and more than a few times let his temper get the best of him

Lincoln had some corrupt friends that pulled some absolute incredible nonsense during the civil war and a couple of times did somethings that the makes anyone who loves the Constitution cringe.

JFK screwed up more than a few things his first days in office.

Don't even get me started on Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, or John Adams

Doesn't take away from the greatness of any of these men or the fact that the Country at the end was better for having them. Sound history also doesn't ignore the dumb things they did, for good reason, they don't want someone else doing the same stupid thing.

I think he knows he gets that one, he can build from there.
That's the first step.

I don't know.
He has such promise to do great things but he has to calm the fuck out of people and prove that he's not what they say he is.

THIS guy has one tough job ahead.

9. He didn't have a choice on that one
unless he wanted to open up a Holy War over a commission appointment that he would eventually have to pick someone with a similar ideology.

He might want to slap Mitch around sometime in the future, particularly if he keeps playing games with administration nominees.

Yeah, the world is fucking nuts....and the people you mention are child's play compared to Joe Lieberman, Stupak, Ben Nelson, Evan Bayh, Diane Feinstein, etc.

At least with those people he can fight back, he's stuck with some real douches in his own party and protocal prevents him from combatting them in public.

12. Trusting politicians to be anything but politicians is a fool's errand.
Obama ran as a "moderate" politician. He is governing as a "moderate" politician. I'm certainly glad he's president, rather than McLoony, but that doesn't require me to like his policies or his politics. Or, support them because he has a (D) behind his name.

Parties are vehicles, tools, to move toward a destination. Some here think that the Party is the destination.

67. Did you expect him to snap his fingers, wriggle his nose, or
wave his magic wand?

A quick fix is just that - a quick fix. It doesn't last. Obama is looking for the long term. America has been cut deeply, and it takes time for those wounds to heal.

If you're looking for someone selling snake-oil that promises to fix everything that ails you over-night; go Republican. Just don't expect his wagon to be here tomorrow morning when everything is worse instead of better.

Real, lasting change takes time. "Patience, grasshopper".

69. It's time people around here took Obama down from his pedestal.
Face it, Obama is not really working for the majority of the people.

No matter home much people around here want to "believe" and have "faith" that he is.

Corporate America loves him though.

What does that tell you?

71. Then evil wins.
Obama needs you more than ever right now. He needs all us.

We are on the verge of passing healthcare for the very first time and its incumbent on all Democrats to rally behind him and make it happen.

If we don't, then the Republicans win.

74. Without trying to sound facetious, maybe you need a little break
Constantly monitoring what's going on in DC right now can be extremely frustrating and nerve wracking, especially with all the things that you and others have so rightly pointed out, especially with all the douchebags like Rahm and Summers and Geithner whispering bullshit advice into Obama's ear. It gets me a little freaked out on occasion.

I suggest that you take a short break from the mosh pit, step away from the news for a few days or weeks and spend some time on yourself. Check out some Strongbad emails or smell some roses or anything else that makes you feel good. Life is too short to go through it unhappy or frustrated. Everybody needs a break now and then to recharge and to connect with things beyond the political cesspool.

We'll be here to welcome you with open arms when you come back and if anything monumentally good or bad happens in the meantime, I'm sure you'll hear about it.

Carpe diem, brutha.
