I HATE REPUBLICANS
I am listening to Mitch McConnell talking about what Americans care about most: COST! He talks about malpractice; he talks about selling insurance over state lines; he talks about Medicare abuse. He NEVER once mentioned pre-existing conditions; he NEVER once talked about all the unemployed not having health insurance; he NEVER once talked about having your insurance taken away. WTF is wrong with Republicans? Do they all have jobs? Do they all have health insurance? Do they have no pre-existing conditions? I just don't get it.

As soon as life kicks a republican in the ass enough for him to need government help he becomes a Democrat.

23. Ironically
all those I know who have been laid off, or are receiving assistance are conservatives. They drink beer railing against big government, government meddling, public school liberal indoctrination, immigrants, etc all while collecting unemployment or disability and using food stamps. Those most desperately in need of health care reform, complain it is an intrusive government takeover.

How does the right do it? Convince so many to vote against their own self interest? How do they get women to vote against affirmative action, equal pay for equal work? I just don't get it...

52. I have.
Virtually everyone I know that was laid off were conservatives that rail against gubmint handouts. Yet they remain firmly convinced that they should take part in social safety net type programs because they deserve it. Having used the programs doesn't make them speak any more kindly of them. The second they're employed again they'll go right back to demanding the government do away with them.

Of course I'm not from the most liberal of states, either.

58. Well, I sure have.
Most of those who hang out at the local pub that I frequent fall into that category. I consider them to be the brainwashed stupid working class. They are the ones who drank the management's Kool Aide that unions were bad and management would take good care of them. They have been taken care of all right. Their jobs out-sourced, pensions cut and health insurance canceled or made prohibitively expensive.

These are the same people who without government programs would have never been able to afford a house, would starve to death without Social Security and have no health insurance if it wasn't for Medicare. You can't reason with them. It is a lost cause because they are brain dead. I only wish that those who reject government programs could be cut off and maybe they would come to their senses, but I wouldn't bet on it.

the ones I'm referring to are mostly family or friends from high school. My aunt, and two cousins were drop outs for instance. My sister the 'libertarian' was a nice solid D student. So while I can't comment on their IQs they never were the most motivated students.

63. Don't quote me, but I think I remember reading about a study of IQ and political ideology.
The gist was the people with the highest IQ's were either hard liberal or hard conservative, with liberal having maybe a percentage point or two lead, but very nearly an even split. The "undecideds" in the middle had the lowest IQ's. The reasoning is that smarter people have given it enough thought to arrive at a consistent viewpoint, whether right or left.

I don't remember where I read this, and it's been a couple years, so it could all be malarkey. But it didn;t set off my malarkey detectors at the time.

46. Well, the ones in Congress won't ever lose their insurance
and they're the ones who cast the votes.

Though, given that this bill only guarantees "coverage" not access to care, there appear to be a lot of Democrats who just don't understand what rip off the private insurers are.

which they only change when the current situation appears to not favor their masters, the Corporate Mob. As Bush ably demonstrated, they're unable to even improvise much less speak honestly. When they do stray off of the range, like Specter, they're vilified and expelled.

61. It is very frustrating to listen to someone who will vote against their own best interest..
. time and time again the Republicans vote against their own (and the country's) best interest.. when it is obvious that many of them, like millions of Americans, are one paycheck away from foreclosure.

Yet the Repubs and Teabaggers are so marinated in religious dogma and corporate propaganda.. they are oblivious to reality.

But I think a lot of folks are waking up and realizing that the Banksters are using the Right vs Left paradigm as a diversion to cover their tracks.

I think the real issue for America is not so much right vs left (although the site of Palin and Glenn Beck makes my stomach churn) the real issue MSM doesn't want you to see is Up vs Down. The fed vs America.. Wall Street against the workers... Goldman Sacs vs Main street.

I think that's the issue.. imho.

65. Money is all they care about
Really, that's it and that's all. Oh, some of them have vague religious leanings too but that's subordinate to the money and, more precisely, bis business who control the money. That's what the malpractice thing is about. Actual malpractice payouts have been stagnant for years while malpractice insurance premiums have skyrocketed. Why have premiums shot up? Because they can. Really, that's it, no other reason. The premiums for malpractice (and most other kinds of insurance) bear no connection to actual payouts. Premiums are whatever the company thinks it can get away with, payouts are whatever it can't avoid.

Think of Republicans as the brought-and-paid-for voice of the Robber Barons and you won't go far wrong.
