Has anyone seen the point made, ANYWHERE that the vast majority of mentally ill...
...people manage their illness with counseling, medicine, or even religion and lead very normal and productive lives -- going to school or work and maintaining relationships etc....

I fear a real backlash toward mentally ill in the wake of VaT. slaughter.
It's taken centuries for the mentally ill to gain a tiny foothold in socity...

the number of those who lash out violently is infinitesmally small compared to those who live regular lives every day...

2. The problem is that it is much, much easier
for a mentally ill individual to obtain an arsenal than it is to obtain effective mental health-care. Lacking the latter, some will turn to the former.

3. Even the totally deranged, too paranoid to accept a sandwich
from an outreach worker, rarely get violent unless they're physically attacked.

It's too bad the antipsychotics we have now have so many side effects. They really do work wonders.

4. I don't think that's true at all
I think it is incredibly hard to get the help they need. And I have heard so many stories of people falling through the cracks.

5. Most people experience mental illness during their life. Just like any other illness,
Sometimes it's acute and temporary in nature. Sometimes it's long term. The stigma we attach to it only makes it worse for everybody.
