The fix is in: Baldwin is a strong liberal and has spoken against Bush and the war
many times.
Do not forget for one moment what we are seeing this morning.

It is the big media slap down at play.

NBC (MSNBC) et al, are sending all of us a message from the little pork chop wizard hiding behind the drap......and the message is......Don't mess with us because we are the GOP and we pull the media strings.

4. Well that says it all doesn't it? One thing we can count on, is that Baldwin is a fighter and
will not take this lying down. I hope.

8. The White House deflection machine is busy sending those
emails and faxes out...

Edwards haircut, Baldwin scolds his daughter, Reid says we lost the war!!!

And the media is (again) doing their bidding.

9. "Visitation" date via cell phone - cell turned off and a rant that mother Kim is evil and
kid is treating Dad like shit and Dad will straighten kid out in next visit - in strong but not screaming tone - is left on voice mail.

Kim gives tape to media and NBC gives it 5 minutes because Baldwin dares to be a progressive liberal that GE does not like.

You do realize he is the star of one of their most important shows, right? 30 Rock?

26. Well 30 Rock ain't doing so well.
Which is too bad because it's a great show!

I remember GE always hated Letterman as well. Remember when he took them a fruit basket and they kicked him out of the building? Priceless!

36. The show was ranked 80 for November sweeps.
Which isn't very good, unfortunately.

I think the renewal was in hopes that more people will discover the show eventually. It's a good show and I'm glad NBC is taking the time to nurture it a little. Seinfeld was the same way. It took folks years to discover that show. But when they did, it was worth the gamble keeping it on.

12. It's related to this...
http://www.eonline.com/news/article/index.jsp?uuid=346082c9-5e67-4212-bc42-ec3213e025c6

While I'm sure that Rove is going to take every advantage of this, I'm not yet convinced that Rove had Baldwin's voice digitally synthesized to create this, or that he used mind control drugs to get Baldwin to say this. Until then, I'll think I'll find it somewhat difficult to see Baldwin as the victim of the "pork chop wizard" instead of a man who would bully his 11 year old daughter on an answering machine.

but IMHO, neither Basinger's or Rove's motives (though I agree with a poster below, the WH has MUCH bigger things to worry about than Alec Baldwin) excuse what he said.

As for the media coverage of it, we're sadly a society of celebrity watchers and that's far more important than real news to a lot of Americans. Look at how much we had to hear about Britney's shaved-head incident - not nearly as much on Alec's rant as that. I don't think he's being singled out.
