If Bernanke is denied the position as head of the Fed...
who are alternative candidates? I'm not well informed on who a good replacement would be. Any ideas?

I believe there is strong bipartisan support against Bernanke and I think Obama is going to have to find a replacement. Who?

1. Nobody
The "federal" reserve is a criminal fraud and it's time to pull the plug on that bullshit.

3. I don't think that will happen.
Something tells me that the Senators willing to block his nomination aren't in agreement with you on this point. I could be wrong.

6. I have no idea what Jim Bunning thinks, and really don't want to.
I'm pretty sure that I remember Bernie Sanders saying that he would rather not have the US money dependent on a private banking cabal though (during one of his weekly "Brunch with Bernie" hours on Thom Hartmann's show.)

14. You can be fairly certain that Bunning isn't thinking of dissolving the Fed. He's not Sanders.
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 06:16 PM by berni_mccoy
And while Sanders might not think the Fed is a good or necessary organization, I don't hear him calling to dissolve it.

4. You too can be a Texas Congressman!
Just eat your Paul-O's and remember, spite and apathy are the keys to political success!

5. Even a broken clock can be right twice a day.
In Ron Paul's case, the "twice" would be the "federal" reserve, and foreign policy. Aside from that, he's pretty much batshit insane.

17. He opposes the federal reserve because of hte word "federal"
and his foreign policy is "cover your eyes and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist"

He's not a broken clock. He's clock that only goes to 9 and is off by 20 minutes.

8. Bernanke will be the Fed Chm. , IM0.
Do not stone me but in these times he is our best bet.

For those who are concerned about Main Street. Bernanke is a heck
of a lot more concerned about main street than many other influentials
around Obama. Think about Sommers.

10. I might have bought that if he hadn't started his assault on SS and Medicare today
When asked about raising taxes on the wealthy he sidestepped the question with some lame, "that's up to Congress," answer but had no problem lobbying for cuts to SS and Medicare (which, legally, is also up to Congress). Major fail.

12. Yeah, he pretty much put a gun to his foot with those statements
Comparing the idea of reining in the costs of social security and medicare with robbing a bank was a spectacular failure.

18. Yes, a freudian slip. Let's hope he shot himself and this ends his reign.
Let's also hope we get someone not of the trickle down crowd to replace him.

20. I doubt that many Dems will really give a shit about that.
I realized a long time ago that for some of us, the curtain is falling.

22. He's not really a scapegoat 'cause he really did screw up, just he was supposed to.
But I'm sure the appointment will be a clone.

13. Don't know if she'd take it, but I would nominate Elizabeth Warren.
Or Krugman, except he is already on record as absolutely not wanting that job.

15. Greenspan was the cancer...
...where was all the outrage for the architect of the mess we are in? Oh, that's right, Greenspan was a GENIUS! (Insert appropriate genuflections here...)

The last decent Fed chairman was Volcker and they ran him out of town on a rail.

Bernanke is a fall guy.

If you want to change things, get rid of the FOMC.

People still don't get it...

Probably higher.

I doubt any other candidates have even been seriously vetted.
