Eliot Spitzer: Geithner, Bernanke “Complicit” in Financial Crisis and Should Go
In an extended interview, we speak with former New York governor Eliot Spitzer about the financial crisis and how it was handled by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Bernanke and Geithner “actually built and participated in creating the structure that now has collapsed,” Spitzer says and calls on them to be replaced. Spitzer also talks about the scandal that erupted last year that forced him to resign as governor. “I have no doubt there were many people who were opposed to me, very powerful forces, who were happy to see me go,” Spitzer says. “Whether they participated, I’ll let others figure that out. I resigned because of what I did.”

4. Maybe he can run and win. Look at Marion Berry.
But he cannot be appointed to anything.

The stain of breaking an "oath" is too deep.

5. what oath did he break?
the one about being faithful to his wife? I find that pretty funny since more than 50% of men out there, break that oath.

8. But you and I both know that's the society we live in.
Hypocritical or not, that's the standard.

There's also the little thing about breaking the law while you're charged with enforcing it.

I won't say he is DEAD politically, but I don't see him getting appointed and winning confirmation any time soon.

He has too many enemies and they will pound away at him.

9. Source?
Infidelity rates are getting higher and higher in the American society. Here are some infidelity statistics based on a survey by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago:

25 percent of men have had extramarital affairs
17 percent of women commited adultery

18. 25% of men have admitted it.
I'm not making any judgments on anyone. I'm just saying many more are guilty of what Spitzer did, than just Spitzer.

6. Spitzer is like Woods to me in a way. I'm very disappointed in the
behavior, but when it comes to their jobs, they're at the top of their game(s)...pun intended...LOL.

2. I have some sympathy for this appeal, but there's a problem
How do you get somebody for the job who really understands real world high finance (assumption here that most people agree that would be a good idea) but who HASN'T worked for the companies complicit? Contrary to facile soundbites, the entire US economy does not, and should not, operate like a household budget or even like a business. Academia? Then you trust the entire economy to someone who might not have much or any practical as opposed to theoretical expertise. Gamble big time.

Personally I wanted Warren B for the job but that ship has sailed.

3. There are people outside of the "old boy" system who understand both
high finance and the law.

Brooksley Born and Elizabeth Warren come to mind.

7. There are quite a few people who were part of the "old boy" system and left in disgust as well.

Alfred Stiglitz and David Korten come to mind.

edit: not to diminish Born and Warren, merely to add there were MANY brilliant and uncorrupted people Obama could have chosen.

11. FWIW, I think Obama hopes to pass the Consumer Financial Protection Agency
legislation and depend less on the Federal Reserve to regulate the industry.

I think Elizabeth Warren is going to be tapped to head the agency if it can be passed. No source, just a feeling.

Bernanke opposes it, Geitner favors it.

12. The Federal Reserve regulating the financial industry??? Yeah right.
That would be about as successful as the Catholic Church regulating pedophiles.

I find it hard to believe the Elf actually favors anything that would NOT empower his "former" employers though.

And it looked like Timmy was telling the PBS guys something entirely different than what he's actually been doing. I just can't trust that slimy little fuck.
