Urgent -- Tell the Postal Service Not to Stamp Out Independent Media!
Should Time Warner Set U.S. Postage Rates?
http://act.actforchange.com/cgi-bin7/DM/y/etR20E36ub0XG20BahH0EGThe United States Postal Board of Governors recently proposed to
implement an unfair increase in periodical rates -- one that will have
grave consequences for independent media - especially progressive
publications like Mother Jones, Ms., The Nation and Sojourners.
In making this proposal, the Board of Governors rejected a plan from
the U.S. Postal Service itself, and instead adopted a different plan
-- one proposed by media giant Time Warner. Time Warner's plan locks
in privileged low rates for bigger companies, and places a huge new
burden on independent publishers.

http://act.actforchange.com/cgi-bin7/DM/y/etR20E36ub0XG20BahH0EGCurrent postal policies have helped foster a vibrant political
discourse in the United States and allowed the growth of alternative
periodicals. We're working with our friends at progressive
publications to gather 50,000 public comments to the Board of
Governors by this coming Monday night, April 23rd. Will you sign the
petition? Our project partners at Free Press will deliver your
comments in person to the Chairman of the Postal Board of Governors on
Tuesday.
In this era of media consolidation, we must act to save independent
publishers that are threatened with bankruptcy. With broad public
pressure, we can reverse the regulators' proposal and restore the
postal system that has served free speech in America so well.
