What is this "Mica in the control room" bit on MSNBC?

I don't watch this alot so maybe it's normal but there is this young woman in the control room, Mica, who keeps interrupting the talking blond head, or brunette or whatever. Mica seems to have all the good info and I think the talking head is pissed. Is this normal for MSNBC?

7. Yes, that is the producer. It's supposed to make the show look like you're getting an inside look

at the goings-on, like you get to hear what's in the newsreader's ear.

My take on the device? Who gives a shit?

GE/MSNBC sucks.
