Lawmakers get little reaction to Obama's war plan
The switchboards and e-mail inboxes of members of Congress are not seeing much of a surge from President Barack Obama's plan to send more U.S. troops into Afghanistan.

Health care and Wall Street bailouts? Those issues light up the phones and get the digital juices flowing.

But lawmakers from across the political spectrum say their constituents seem to be too war-weary or preoccupied with matters at home to be making their voices heard in large numbers on Obama's troop increase.

The tepid response is a marked difference from three years ago, when President George W. Bush's decision to send more troops into a bogged-down Iraq war roiled the Capitol for months and prompted widespread protests.

1. This makes me very sad.
I called my rep and left a scathing message. I've been doing this for years, and won't stop, but it's not working- clearly-

It might be time for peace activists to throw everything we have into anti- recruiting, however with the economy in disaster,
and no job hopes for many kids futures that likely won't be very effective either.

I'm convinced more and more that Peace of the Action, is a good plan to demonstrate our discontent with all issues pertaining
to perpetual war and the military industrial complex.

2. Or maybe this is just what they are telling reporters... People want out
and they don't listen to us.

4. What do other here notice "on the street?"

I don't see all that many people in a given week, but no one has brought the subject up independently. That "no one" includes a couple of fairly mouthy, highly opinionated people. Jobs and the economy are more likely to be mentioned. Do others notice this?

5. On the street, the economy seems to be the only blip on the public radar. n/t.
Nobody's talking about the wars. Economy related issues, yes, wars no. (and I work in high volume retail)

6. Keep in mind that they said we called in and supported the bailouts too

After all the facts were presented...right...

It doesn't suprise me that the response is tepid. People like me know we're just wasting our breath.
