Hutchison: TSA unionization a threat to national security

McALLEN, Nov. 5 - U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says allowing workers at the Transportation Security Administration to form a union is a threat to national security.

The TSA comprises 50,000 security officers, inspectors, directors, air marshals and managers who protect the nation's transportation systems.

Hutchison made her views known in a news release in which she called for improved border security and advised against TSA unionization. The news release followed Hutchison’s quizzing of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano during a Commerce Committee hearing on transportation security challenges.

Ed Sills, director of communications for Texas AFL-CIO, a 230,000-member federation of Texas labor unions, said he found Hutchison’s anti-union remarks “highly offensive.”

They are not perfect, but no way should we ever go back to the incompetent boobs who did airport security in those awful private companies.

We have unions for other essential services... We simply don't allow them to strike.
