Something I posted on a board full of GOP posters

No debate allowed? Since when?

First, let's get one thing straight: After we defeated the Nazi regime (which put us at about the same stage in that war that we have been at in Iraq for almost 4 years), there WAS a debate about what to do next. And the Republicans argued for getting out and against the Marshall Plan.

So, let's not pretend that nobody is allowed to debate about the terms of an occupation without being called a traitor.

Now, let's do a bit of a thought experiment:

-Suppose Roosevelt or Truman had gone into Germany with no plan for securing the country after the Nazis were deposed.
- Now suppose we spent the next 4 years fighting insurgents there -- with no real plan for how to get out of the mess.
-Suppose that Germany then erupted into factional violence and that we were stuck in the middle.

Are you telling me that nobody in Congress would have tried to force the president to end the bleeding?

No, sorry. But our parents and grandparents were too practical for that.

2. One person said my mother should have aborted me
Others missed the point and thought I was criticizing the Marshall Plan.

Another thought he really caught me in a big lie because the Marshall Plan started in 1947 and not 1945 (which I never claimed).

3. Moral of the story: don't go to Repub message boards
They don't handle things like reality too well.

4. But I thought most of them were against abortions?
Maybe you should mess with them and tell them your mother wanted to but it was before Roe V Wade so she was prevented from doing so ;)

I don't argue with people like that anymore - - they won't listen to facts, they can't follow logic and they have trouble seeing any merit of any other side....

Go taunt them about Gonzo - - Ask if he really did look like a baby seal getting clubbed.....
