The german navy switched from coal to oil, and the british navy switched from coal to oil, and the germans were in the process of extending their rail line from constantinople to anbar when the brits blew it up! and that's how wwi started. just learned this today and thought i'd pass it along.

1. Most historians agree the trigger was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria
On 28 June 1914, Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb student, killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The assassination in Sarajevo set into motion a series of fast-moving events that escalated into a full-scale war. Austria-Hungary demanded action by Serbia to punish those responsible. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, when it deemed it had failed to comply. Major European powers were at war within a matter of weeks. This was due to overlapping agreements for collective defense and the complex nature of international alliances at that time. The conflict, however, also had deeper complex causes.

they're limited.

Of course, I'm a knucklehead when it comes to history, so don't listen to me.

4. Yep, Brit navy switching to oil had major effect on middle east
from then till now.
The first bombing of civilians by aircraft was by the British RAF against the post WWI 'revolt' of Iraqi tribes.
But they hate us for our freedom.
