1. Did you hear Bill Maher last night?
Showed a picture of Thompson's child bride in some skimpy nightgown lookin thing and said "Every time Thompson sees her, his dick goes (that Law & Order sound)".

7. Anyone else notice that it seems like...
...the child-bride is NEVER around anymore when Fred is photographed or or interviewed?

I can tell ya, from having been raised by conserv Repub parents, that if my mom were alive, she would be offended by Jerri Thompson....and I can see her and my dad not supporting Fred because of Jerri. That is the mind set with a lot of the RWs I know. They are the traditional Country Club set and someone who dresses like Jerri Thompson would NOT be accepted by them. Especially the conserv Repub women ~~ they expect guys who are Fred's age to have wives who are about the same age and who do not wear dresses to events that would be best worn in the bedroom as a nightgown. They expect and support the "little woman" look and not the "sex object" look. The contrast between Fred and Jerri is made even worse by the fact that he is a very tall man and she appears to be at least a foot shorter than he is, he looks much older than his years and she looks much younger. It looks like he has he GRANDdaughter ~~ and not just his daughter ~~ on his arm when he is with her.

So.....just from having been raised in a preppy, RW Repub, Country Club set home (UGH), I known the mind-set and how they will react to Jerri. Nancy Reagan was an elegant queen to them...so you can imagine how much Jerri will NOT be accepted by many of the RWs.

Frankly, I don't give a shit about who or what she is or what she looks like ~~ Fred's politics suck ~~ and it makes no dif to whom he is married. However, to the plastic, monied RW set, she most likely is gonna be offense just based on looks.

2. He is the reason I quit watching Law & Order
When he would pull his chin down to his chest, stick his lower lip out and shake ever so slightly while delivering his lines, I felt like I was gonna vomit.

...as if it was a badge of honor?

He's a whining RW jackass and I can't stand to watch L&O any more due to him.

5. The "Daddy" thing goes back a long way.
About 5000 years, to Egypt and Sumeria. If we're gonna survive, we need to shift back around to more of an "Earth Mother" consciousness, and start to build more sustainable communities.

I don't think Hillary quite fits the profile, though.

19. Mentally lazy people want a daddy, you know a " Father Knows Best"
kind of daddy. That way they don't need to inform themselves and make decisions with critical thinking. All they have to do is run to daddy and he'll take care of everything. All they have to do is go home and play house. All the conservatives play on this weakness. Remember Rush Limbaugh telling his listeners that the only place they needed to go to get information was his show. They didn't need to go anywhere else for information because daddy Rush as it all there for him to spoon feed to them like good little children.

18. He's 64, she's 40. Grand-daughter range is closer to Kucinich and his bride
Oops, I've got to quit making that comparison. Obviously in Kucinich's case it is a true spiritual connection.

25. Well, he's an old looking sixty four, and she's a young looking 40.
That outfit is a bit much for "candidate's wife" fare, frankly. Either she wasn't thinking, or he wasn't planning on a return to public life when that shot was taken. I've read, here and there, that SHE is the one shopping the idea all over hell, calling potential supporters and boosting the possibility of his candidacy.

Ya just don't put that much titty on display in a political venue--it irritates the religious right, it drives away the matronly voters, too. And it isn't just boobs, it's skin in general. Remember Nancy Reagan's hideous gowns? She got freebies that had no sleeves, and though she was very slim, she had these ghastly BATWINGS of flesh that hung off those skinny arms. It was probably the most off-putting display imaginable--she was going for Jackie Kennedy, and she ended up with Sunset Boulevard...

She figured it out eventually, and put some sleeves on her shit. But for awhile there, she just didn't realize that those massive wrinkled garbage bags under her armpits weren't attractive at all.

30. Well, it ain't a win-lose thing. People can do what they want. Look at that geezer and poor old
Anna Nicole, after all.

Then again, onlookers have every right to cackle things like "golddigger" or "no fool like an old fool" in response to these sorts of unions.

Free speech in America, ain't it grand!

All I can say is, unless she "olds up" right quick, puts those boobs away, covers herself, and gets a Betty Crocker haircut, she's gonna be a serious liability. She needs the "GOP makeover." She's no Jackie Kennedy, and his bald old ass is no Jack Kennedy either.

Notwithstanding the cancer, I really think America is sick to fucking death of a "folksy" accent like ole Fred's. I think we want straight talk, and not a lot of Awww, geee's, Awwww, shucks, and Howdys. Fuck that "country plain" crap--I think someone who can hold their own on the international stage, and not sound like a hayseed, is what America is looking for.

That's just my view, YMMV.

12. Don't underestimate the man
A lot of people, right up until election day, thought that Reagan was a parody, and he wound up being one of the worst nighmares this country has seen.

Thompson actually has a good shot at getting the nod. He's got the experience in government, he's got the plus' that come from being an actor, he has recognition value, he cuts a respectable figure on TV, which also gives him plenty of free face time. He can be a money making machine, both in Hollywood and out. People with confuse his on screen persona with his real life and political persona.

I imagine, with the polls running this good for him, that once Law and Order ends for good this spring, Thompson is going to jump into the race and eat the rest of the field for lunch. And sadly, he will probably beat most of the Dems that are put up against him, especially if it's Hillary.

Edited on Sat Apr-21-07 11:58 AM by wienerdoggie
even run--he is polling fairly low in the early states, according to the WaPo, there's not much buzz. What's interesting is that this same little trophy wife is PUSHING HARD for him to run, even though it could compromise his health. Did she recently up his life insurance, or what?

edit to say--Ok, that's TWO words in my title--LOL!

14. Like I said, don't underestimate the man
He has indolent lymphoma, which is in remission. Sure, it is incurable, but it is treatable and the median life expectancy for victims is ten years. And while he is in third place in the polls, with aprox. fourteen percent, consider that both McCain and Guliani are both falling, and all of this is without Thompson doing a damn thing:shrug: In addition, he shows up quite well against Hillary, beating her by a point in a March Rasmussen poll.

Actually the Republican primary offereing is weak this year, and that might just be what pulls Thompson into the race. I would imagine that as soon as he entered the race his numbers would double, beating out McCain and tying him for the lead with Guliani.

I neither know nor care about his wife. I do know that she is a media image consultant, which I'm sure that she'll put to good use if Thompson does climb into the ring.

15. Disagree--image and appearance is his only strong suit, and the
cancer will hurt him in the campaign, and the GOP knows it--they won't bet on a lame horse. The cancer could be kept at bay, or it could flare up again--it killed Tsongas. If he wasn't a celebrity, he wouldn't even be considered, so weak was his track record as a Senator. He hasn't campaigned for anything in 11 years--he's been out of the loop, for the most part. Add to the fact that he looks old and unwell, and then the trophy wife with store-bought titties, and folks will squirm. He is a paper tiger, and if he does get into the race, his numbers won't go up appreciably. He is the last gasp of a desperate, dissatisfied GOP, and nothing more. Rudy will be the nominee, and if not him, then McCain or Romney. There won't be any surprises, despite the media's wish to create excitement in the GOP race.

16. There's a reason why his face won the SAG award
But obviously the important question is his wife's age (40, so not exactly "creepy") and whether her boobs are real.

I'm saying they're unenhanced.
