I went to a revival showing of "It's a Wonderful Life" and ended up meeting the president of AIG.

Robert H. Benmosche donated a lot of money to restoring the Lafayette Theater in Suffern, New York. He was introduced to the audience before the movie. To my dismay, he was also touted as "going to Washington to fix the economy."

When I said I met him, what I meant was I walked up to him after the movie to ask him for an interview for my radio program. He said he'd let me know on Monday. I prefer Sam Greenfield taking him on rather than do it myself.

1. I don't mean to be rude, but I wish that it were former DUer Tomintib who met him rather than you.
It probably would have made for a more interesting story.

What kind of things do you want to talk to him about?

2. What can I say? Roll of the dice and serendipity.

I'll do some research over the week-end in case he agrees to come on the air.

One angle would be his take on how he and AIG will "fix the economy" with AIG's past history of doing just the opposite.

3. By the way, the tomintib reference was a reference to this thread

I can only imagine what would have happened had he been in your place tonight. Good luck with that interview. I hope you get a chance to put the screws to him.

I've seen a bunch of people doom themselves that way.

Tough minefield to negotiate, that group.

6. He already fixed the economy.
He fixed it so well that his company should have gone under. I don't think we can take anymore.

15. If you read his bio, you'll notice that he only became CEO a few months ago
That is, he is replacing the CEO that ran AIG into the ground. But don't let little details like that bug you. Benmosche had previously been working at Metlife, which did not get or even ask for any bailout money, and which passed the treasury's stress test first time.

Yes, obviously we should blame him for the failure of a company that took place almost a year before he began working there.

14. Ask him as head of a company that's gone from #4 in the Global 1000 to 968th how he intends to "fix
the economy." Then ask him about the role of AIG in bringing down the U.S. economy, and why the US Treasury should be guaranteeing the value of Credit Default Swaps issued by AIG to Chinese-European banks while millions of Americans lose their homes to foreclosures.

I'd love top hear his response almost as much as Hank Greenberg's.

Sure you might do a night or two in the clink, but you'd be a national hero.

Assault(or battery depending on the state) is a pretty minor charge anyway.

Edited to add: Yes I'm kidding.
