Take away their money.......
....and they would be begging for health care reform. It's as simple as that. The ones who don't want to see medicare expanded or a public option would all but disappear if they lost everything they had. As long as they can afford healthcare, they seem to say "Fuck everyone else!"

The rich have healthcare. Why should they vote to pay for someone elses's healthcare? But, I bet, to a person, every one of them would be for healthcare reform were they unable to afford it.

It all comes down to "I've got mine, you get yours." Of course, everytime a bill that threatens to take away a few pennies of their money comes up, they are vehemently against it. It seems as though their real mantra is "I've got mine, and I'm coming after yours!"

IS that "American"? Is that what we've come to? For half of us, and you know which half that is, it seems so. It's not so much sad as pathetic.

2. Lawmakers should recuse themselves from any vote that
would affect a business from which they or a family member would profit.

Just like judges.

Here's an example:

"With that in mind, the Journal Sentinel decided to conduct a quick review of the stock holdings of Wisconsin's House and Senate members. Here's what we found:

• Three lawmakers - Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Menomonee Falls), Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) and Tom Petri (R-Fond du Lac) - own individual stock in health care-related companies such as Pfizer, Medtronic and Abbott Labs."

...

"Sensenbrenner, who has advocated against a tax on the medical device industry amid the debate over health care reform, owns at least $840,000 worth of stock in medical device companies, according to a recent analysis by The Washington Postof the medical device company stock holdings of members of Congress."
