Tea Party Candiate Runs For Ted Kennedy's Seat
A teabagger has decided to try to run for Ted Kennedy's Seat. From the Boston Herald

"The long-shot candidate at the center of a Senate campaign spat yesterday dismissed the Democratic and Republican parties as “two sides of the same coin,” saying both had failed to address the two most pressing issues of the campaign.

Libertarian Joseph L. Kennedy’s remarks came as a spokesman for front-runner Martha Coakley, who won the Democratic nomination last Tuesday, welcomed his participation in upcoming debates - a proposal given a chilly reception by her Republican rival.

Kennedy, who is unrelated to the storied political clan, said the most important issues in the campaign were jobs and the economy.

“The Republicans didn’t address the issue when they had time. The Democrats chose to focus on entitlement programs,” said Kennedy, a 38-year-old computer technician from Dedham who is taking a leave of absence from his job to run for the seat held by the late Edward M. Kennedy. “In general, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are two sides of the same coin.”

Kennedy noted he had collected the required 10,000 signatures to be on the ballot in the Jan. 19 election and said he was eager to be heard.

“I’m not here to hide,” Kennedy said in an interview at a “Boston Tea Party” forum at Faneuil Hall, an event that drew about 100 spectators and focused on proposals to abolish the Federal Reserve and establish state militias and a new monetary system.

“I’m here because I have beliefs,” Kennedy said, maintaining that he should be included in debates between Coakley and state Sen. Scott Brown.

Abolishing the federal reserve is something not new because that is what Ron Paul is all about. But bring back State Militas. What century does this person think that we are living? Like 1798. Mr. Kennedy needs to realize that state militas are outdated because we have something called National Guard. And National Guard does it job quite well.

I bet this guy is one of those type who wishes that he could time travel in 1776. I bet that he would be one of those people who do mock battles from the Revoultionary War.

What we have to learn is that we cannot back to 1776. We live in 2009 where we live in global system where nations are interdependent on each other and global cooperation is required.

This is what the Teabaggers really want to do, but they are delusional because what they seek can longer work for this country. You cannot return to the government in the 1800s because that form of government does not work for today with such epic problem as massive unemployment, broken infrastructure, and climate change.

In a nut bag, our government must have enough power to handle the challenges of today amd be a tool for ensuring class equity and fairness. Government based on 1776 standards would be an impedient in ensuring sustainability of our infrastructure, ensuring class equity so the middle class does not appear, and ensuring that necessary capital is injected into the private markets to ensure sustainable and long-lasting growth.

12. Edward
Well we can say that a person with experience shouldn't be elected, but the late Edward Kennedy didn't have any....

7. Won't most of his support be drawn from Republican-leaning voters?
Heh - I guess that'd be why the Democratic candidate is so welcoming while the Republican's reaction is less than enthusiastic.

It seems to me that, although they are drawing from the same pool of conservative, reactionary voters, the goals of the Tea Party (goodness - what a name!) are in many cases anathema to the unstated priorities of the Republican party.

National defense spending (funding lucrative defense contracts), aggressive foreign policy (including pre-emptive aggression), and privatization of goverment functions (provided by private contractors but funded by taxpayer dollars) are all hallmarks of modern Republican policy, as well as the source of much of their campaign funding.

Is the Tea Party movement ultimately more threatening to the Democratic majority or the Republican recovery?

8. I guess he thinks his surname will give him a boost
it should be made clear over and over he has no, none, nada, zilch connection to Ted Kennedy. Because I bet you the farm his name is what he is hoping will propel him forward.

13. That's what worries me
When I first heard he was in the race, my first thought was, Oh great!!! Joe Kennedy decided to run after all!

But it's not the same Joe Kennedy, and I'm a bit worried that some people in my state will not be aware of that and vote for him based on his name, thinking he's the OTHER Joe Kennedy.

I really hope people pay attention....

10. Militia ????
Well unfortunately he is not one of those Militia guys or one of the Revolutionary war guys so as much as we don't agree with him... lying about him just gives the other side fuel. I would recommend looking up all the media and his speeches - we don't have to like him, but painting him with a message he doesn't have discredits us. Also the guy has a job and is taking a pay cut for the position so you might want to watch that too... Your just giving them fuel to say we label them all together.
