Racism and Woods, the Asian Tiger

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page.html (scroll down on right)

from Tipping Points

"... 'Woods' is actually the Anglicization of 'Wu'. Apparently, Tiger's grandfather was a full-blooded Chinese with the name of Wu. He married a black woman. Tiger's father then married a Thai-Chinese woman. So Tiger is largely a Chinese. ... n the case of Tiger there is almost no voice of support from the black community in the US. This is obviously a sinister form of racism among the blacks. ..." - Liang

"Liang ... As far as the racism thing goes, I would remind you that this is a universal phenomenon and not something strictly unique to America. ..." - Charles Knause

"Why so, Liang? It could be simply a sign of widespread disapproval among for Tiger's philandering. If it is, then it is a sign of maturity among Afro-Americans - a replacement of knee-jerk ethnic tribalism with an 'each case on its merits' sense of natural justice." - MonsoonWind

1. not really. I don't give a damn about tiger woods and his bs, and sick to death of the endless
coverage, to the detriment of actual news.

2. obviously a sinister form of racism
:sarcasm: that tiger hasn't been vocal in his support of african-americans.

3. I literally, love Chinese people, but they have a LOT to learn as a culture about racism.
The above exchange is cringeworthy for no other reason than its lack of self-awareness.

4. Doesn't Liang mean... there is almost no voice of support from the
Caublanasian community--since that is the heritage that Woods claims?

6. Or maybe they don't support him because he's been an asshole.
Completely aside from his exploits, which I don't really care about much, Woods has displayed a profound level of cowardice in the public square. He's refused to do pretty much anything that would require him to take a stand--he didn't criticize Nike's use of sweatshops, he didn't say boo about exclusive golf clubs which didn't admit women, he hasn't stuck his neck out for ANY kind of cause other than making more money for himself.

9. Tiger Woods is a paper tiger.
His image is ruined. He's done.

11. As someone stated on msnbc this a.m. , it's not so much his
philandering that upsets people but the hypocrisy. He has been cast as this "family" man, good husband and father and now turns out to be quite the opposite. Either way, I'm sick to death of the story.

12. In a country where a man can cruelly abuse dogs before killing them in cold blood
then come back to a multimillion dollar contract playing football, a little philandering is not going to even compare.
