I think the Democrats have now figured out where the line is.
The outrage flying through Democratic circles right now has to have woken them up. THIS time, we were ready for the screw job. Dean knew right where the line was, too, when it was time to raise hell.

We understood the difficulties with passing such huge legislation and were flexible and loyal for a long time. We put up with compromise after compromise, all the while knowing what "the deal" was, "the deal" being that we would allow the insurance companies to suckle off the treasury if people were finally given the option to buy insurance directly from the government and bypass that middleman who would profit most by not providing care to the patients and extorting as much money from them as possible in premiums, deductibles and copays.

But the Obama Administration refused to fight for that. As it turns out, they expected us to just give up our part of the deal and leave the insurance companies with a windfall and further money with which to lobby our corporatist representatives. It's likely that's what they were shooting for all along.

Now, they think they can roll out our most liberal, trusted Senators, who likely have been threatened (save those threats for the base, not the three or four corporatists holding up everything!), to placate us and tell us "there, there, it's all going to be okay- giving hundreds of billions of dollars to the insurance industry is a 'good start'."

Well, I gotta say, people are pretty pissed off. I don't think this "plan" of theirs is going to work. I think they're going to lose HUGE in 2010, and probably have serious problems in 2012, too.

Do you think the Democrats might lament that their supporters are as smart as them? They probably wish sometimes that they had a bunch of easily-manipulated morons voting for them, like the Republicans do.

1. Welcome to DU.
I hope you are right and the Administration actually starts to listen to the base, but I doubt they will. Most likely, they will be happy to alienate the base and move on.

I honestly think that Democrats prefer to be the minority in Congress. That way they're not responsible for enabling corporate-controlled government. They can blame the Republicans for it. They are alienating their base, and I don't think that our elected Democrats are too upset about that. It's easier to be the minority party in Congress.

That's exactly where this administration is headed.

2. a co-worker came up to me leaving work today - he was LIVID. Says he is NEVER voting Dem again
My hubby says same thing. For him the foxes watching the henhouse (Bernanke etc) was even worse than the health insurance bs.
They lost my son. and they have lost me.

I was furious when Webb voted against drug reimpotation.

The Dems have totally screwed the progressives liberals. Rahm thinks that he can keep us in line while he panders to the right. Rahm is an ass-sucking slimeball. I dislike him more than I did Turdblossom, and trust him less as well. At least I *knew* where the Turd stood.

3. Obama has completely lost the faith of my family members

Staunch Democrats but hardly "purists". They are pretty conservative on certain issues. They just see him as capitulating to the right wing. It's not what they bargained for when they voted for him.

4. we are ultra liberal progressives, except hubby (fiscal conservative, socially progressive)
and he has lost us all.

Even my 83 year old mom is disappointed.

I think Obama hoped he could be Prez of All of us,change the tone in DC and bring the country together again. I just don't see that happening.
