Because of a pair of smiles.

The one on those I wish it, and the one on my silly-ass mug. I cannot say the words without smiling.

As I told a family member earlier this week, if nothing else, we celebrate the faith of our Fathers. A time to look back and look forward, and by doing so, see where we are in life. And look to where we wish to be.

However you celebrate the time and the season, may you know my greatest wish for all those I know and love on DU is that you may know peace of spirit, love in abundance, and true friendship.

I went to my first X-mas program in a church in decades last night, all about getting the season back in your heart vs. letting the everyday stuff control you. Lotsa music, too! It was called "The Christmas Station".

If one is not a Christian, or one does not wish to acknowledge the Christian holiday, there is a response to "Merry Christmas!" It is "Thank you! And Happy Hanukkah (or Festivus, or Winter Solstice, or Kwanzaa, or Holidays) to you!"

The problem is not saying "Merry Christmas," but meaning it as a greeting and a good wish, not as an attack on the beliefs of others. If the Muslim can feel free to say "Happy Ramadan" or words of such import for Islam, that's the best of both worlds. There's no reason those who celebrate Christmas should resist wishing a merry Christmas to all. The key is to be accepting, not combative, to those who have another belief system for the holidays, and to give that equal respect when their adherents mention them.

May your Christms truly be a Merry one. :)
