Signs of class war as Senate plans health care vote

FLESH & STONE, Dec. 20

"We can not allow people like Hemsley to profit off denying people health care without feeling a public backlash for their actions, if we want health care reform we need to stand for real reform and we need to stand against United HealthCare." -- Protester

For some, it is simply wrong to profit off the illnesses of others.

Feeling ignored by senators and representatives that appear to listen only to lobbyists, a group of Minnesotans took their displeasure directly to the CEO of one of the nation’s largest health insurance companies on Saturday.

“We don’t need insurance profiteers between us and our health care,” said activist and co-organizer Roger Cuthbertson, after planting a banner in the snow in front of the $6.6 million Lake Minnetonka mansion owned by United Health Group CEO Stephen Hemsley.

1. The insurance and pharmaceutical barons wage class war against the REST of us.
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 02:34 AM by Ken Burch
All these Minnesotans, and the majority of the American people who stand with them in spirit, are doing is fighting BACK.

We're not going to retain any semblance of "democracy" if we stay with a system where the wealthy always call the tune.

2. Right
Why shouldn't they protest. That guy got stock options from his company worth $744 million in stock options in the company. What a deal, huh. That bought him a little exposure.

4. Don't know why anyone would object to them protesting outside
the beautiful house he bought with the people's health care premiums. It's a small price to pay for the privilige of the incredible life style he and the rest of them get to live at the expense of the public.

I would trade the place of those visiting the emergency room tonight, or being 'dumped' by hospitals because they cannot afford to pay to stay alive in this great country, for his any day, even with the occasional protestors.

Even though it didn't happen this time, I hope the Private Health Industry's time is limited. We do not need them. They are a burden on the public, using up one third of the money that should be going to keep people alive. With that money, we could improve on the Government programs we have and provide non-discriminatory healthcare to all Americans. Why do we accept that fact that the pooor, now about to be forced to scrape up more money for these people, should have substandard healthcare? Because that is what this mandated Insurance will do.

The poor and the elderly and the sick will be discriminated by this bill. There is simply no way to keep people like this CEO in the comfort he is accustomed to, without that discrimation. For that reason alone, for profit helathcare is immoral.

3. It ain't a war unless both sides are killing.
Until then, it's just a massacre. They're killing us without a worry for themselves.

9. Right and they're doing nothing to relieve the illness
Even if they paid properly and on time, even if they offered full coverage as per an individual's plan instead of whittling away at the coverage with bureaucratic tricks, they'd do nothing to relieve illness. $744 million in stock options for this guy is ridiculous. He does nothing except take.

You're absolutely right.

10. The American people are fully ignorant of how the
political elites manipulate them all the time.

There is a class war and we are losing.

12. United Healthcare - husband & wife coverage for $32,400/yr
Every December, our small company gets estimates for health insurance, trying to find lower prices. This year one of the estimates came from United Healthcare. They offered us husband & wife coverage for $2700 / mo ($32,400 / yr). We declined. Who but a millionaire could afford that? National one-payer now!

13. I'm in the same boat
Stuck in a very high priced out of state plan that I can't transfer to high but much less costly in state plan by the same company. Why? Preexisting conditions prevent the transfer to the in-state company. It's an outrage and I don't have until 2014 or whenever they say this will be implemented to wait. It's such a total fraud. But one thing is coming of it, Wall Street is having a Christmas Rally on the news of the Senate bill.

Goot luck to you.
