Even though I opposed the legislation in Congress because it didn't have a public option, my healthcare coverage is both affordable and decent. It's administered by the state but it's through private insurers.

I would have much preferred a public option. I have deep reservations about the Senate legislation. I hate that women were effectively sold out. I hate that this is a winning ticket for insurance companies. But Catamount is a good template. It's well administered. It provides good benefits and it doesn't gouge its subscribers.

Edited to add:

It's what we supposedly will be getting. I realize that how things go down in VT or MA are very different from how they go down in AL or OK.

1. The way I read it on their site, EVERYONE can get it?
Not only pregnant women or children or disabled or elderly?

I would honestly faint if they ever offered anything affordable in NC for poor people without children. Right now, there is nothing here if you are poor and don't have children...except high costs and paying for it yourself.

2. Well, not everyone. For instance, you have to wait a year before applying
if you lose your insurance.

In Vermont, there's not only Catamount, but VHAP and Dr. Dynosaur.

3. I would probably be in the VHAP one...
if I lived there, I mean. From what I saw, the lowest income for Catamount one was still well above the income we have per month by over 700 a month. :wow:
