Hoekstra uses failed terrorist attack to raise campaign funds

Even while declaring "partisan rancor" has no place in national security, Congressman Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) can't seem to keep himself from it.

And while he's at it, he may just generate a few dollars for his gubernatorial campaign.

"We don't have much time, so I will get right to the point," a Dec. 28 fundraising letter from Hoekstra's office begins.

(He does not explain why there is not much time, but the implication would seem to be that it's because Democrats are making "frightening" decisions about national security, as the congressman later claimed.)

Hoekstra's letter tore into Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano for claiming "the system worked" in the aftermath of the failed Christmas day attack on a Northwest Airlines flight into Detroit.

How would being governor of Michigan give him any influence over national security? This just shows he has nothing to run on. How about some ideas on how to bring jobs to Michigan? Ideas to revitalize Detroit? Talking about the attempted terrorist attack may help him win the primary but he'll need something more to win the general election.
