If anyone is looking for a job check out the air ports
I have an interview for a government job at the air port next week. I'm excited about it! I do hope it doesn't end up involving a bunch of nonsense due to all this paranoia. When they called for an interview she was extremely upbeat and eager to have me come in for an interview which has always been a red flag in my mind that the job involves a lot of nonsense. In any case I will be happy to be employed again.

FYI to anyone here looking for a job it looks like all this panic has prompted the gov to start hiring for more positions at the air ports. They got back to me pretty fast after applying for it. So if you need a job it's a place to look.

1. Airport is one word.
You should nail that before the interview.

6. Have you ever wondered why every post I make on DU is edited after posting?
My Mac was bought used and has some kind of auto correct software installed on it. As soon as I post on a forum it runs automatically and makes changes that are grammatically incorrect... and apparently the former user taught it to change certain words to whatever he told it was correct. Either that or it is a virus. I have no idea how to remove it.

Research (AKA as "google") what it takes to pass gov't security clearances. They may likely ask if you can pass a certain clearance level or even ask if you've held one in the past. It would be nice to answer them yes or no (truthfully) rather than saying you're unsure.

5. Can you tell me more about this?
The listing DOES say that you need to be able to get a security clearance.

I have NO CLUE how one does that. I can tell you I have ZERO criminal history. I have not so much as had a traffic ticket. (literally never) I have perfect credit. They check credit don't they? Mine is spotless.

Do they check anything else?

11. You don't get the security clearance for yourself. When you're in
the interview, they will prob run a VCIN/NCIC check on you with info from your driver's license, just to get a preliminary idea whether you are a punk or not. In the interview, you'll get asked more questions to determine whether there might be something in your background that would keep you from getting a clearance. If you have no criminal record, that's 95% of it. I don't know what sort of clearance you need, but if you pass the initial screening on interview day, you may have to fill out other paperwork that will be used by an investigator to do a deeper background investigation -- neighbors, references, former employers, landlords, former coworkers, etc., will be contacted and asked about your suitability for a security clearance. Those people will all be asked for names of other people who know you (mutual friends, other coworkers, etc.), so the investigator will not be depending just on those folks whom you've listed as references. Generally, they will all be asked if you have decent credit, did you live beyond your means, have you ever used drugs recreationally, if you had problems with alcohol or had anger management/violence issues, or if anyone in the workplace/neighborhood/school had any legal run-ins with you.

Do I need to tell you to:

Wear a suit
Have a fresh haircut, pref short, no weird haircolors
Have no facial hair
No bad breath or body odor
Try to keep a good balance between being sure of yourself and friendly and being too forward
Be a little nervous; interviewers would rather see that than a cocksure jerk

PM me if you have any more questions.

18. Sounds like you're good to go.
Criminal background is a fair amount of it.
Financial security (mainly credit) is usually the bulk of the rest.

There is a concept called "adverse information" that is what they look for. Bankruptcies, shady dealings, debts, tax status, related/married to foreign nationals, association with people on watch-lists or of special interest... things of that sort. Anything that could be used as leverage against you by an adverse party. You're likely good to go, and even if there is adverse information (everybody has at least something) they'll just look into it to see it's nothing major. Most clearances are basic background checks and piss tests. Some of the higher clearances require interviews of people that know you and have worked with you. I doubt for a typical airport job (unless you do the screening or something) will they actually interview friends and colleagues.

Relax... no big deal. Really.
I just thought you might want to know if you feel you have a good chance of passing in case they ask.
If you think there might a blemish or adverse information, don't be afraid to mention it if they ask.
No, they don't want to hear if you skipped class in 6th grade to make out in the supply closet.

WOW! They need this to work at the airport????? Crazy. Wikipedia linked to the security clearance form that one has to fill out. Lots of information required. Well at least I know I'll be having to wait at least another month. :(

4. If you haven't filled out the bible yet
It'll be at least another month from the date you submit your background check before you hear anything.

8. If they are good at laundry
maybe they could get a job washing the republicans shorts. As much as they have been messing themselves trying to pin everything in the world on Obama that should be a full time job with lots of overtime.
