Poll question: HCR Why Do You Hate It?
Edited on Thu Dec-31-09 01:04 AM by BeFree
Someone here said that they thought that the HCR bill was bad.

So, I thought, why not a poll? Has anyone polled DU members yet?
Would I get punched if I posted a poll? How many wrecks would it get?

1. This bill has nothing to do with health care, let alone reform. n/t

Stock values for insurance companies when up. That should be telling.

Go Giants

3. Not a "great" bill, but a good one. And it does address a lot of
health care issues beyond insurance. But people only hear what they want to hear.

4. Yes, "people only hear what they want to hear"...
But I'll keep talking anyway, yes there are some items in the bill that may help(I'll wait to check the loop holes first), but it's wasted effort. Chaining americans to private, for profit(and we mean mountains of it!) insurance's is wrong. When health care reform became insurance reform, I started to worry. Please talk me down, but I don't think you can.:hurts:

5. Actually, there is more than just insurance reform in the bill.
Here, read this. I think it will make you feel much better about the bill. It was really hard for me to support a mandate without a Public Option or something similar (it does include co-ops and State-run PO's, but those are much weaker and don't have the "pooling power" of a National PO), but there are so many other good things in this bill that I found I couldn't oppose it in good faith.

8. Because I'm a cynical
bastard and it seems like far too much empowering the people that caused the mess without enough cracking down on them.
I worry there are enough loopholes insurers are going to continue to screw to their heart's content, and now we're forced to deal with them. Smacking down the middle class while pretending the ultra-rich already shoulder the greatest burden doesn't help either.
I don't hate it, I just worry that it's going to do a ton of damage and destroy the party if it passes.

10. Canada's universal health care act is fourteen pages long..
And it's in two languages, English and French so it's actually only seven pages.

The only reason this bill is well over a thousand pages long is to give plenty of loopholes, and those loopholes were not put there for the average person.

11. I don't think anybody likes this bill
not even the insurance giants who are going to have to swallow some minimal reforms.

It's a sissy ass bill that had all the good stuff gutted because everybody was bending over backwards to please a handful of conservatives instead of either sending it to reconciliation or temporarily ending the filibuster.

12. Rewarding the corrupt criminal bastard insurance industry with millions of new customers
and forcing us all to pay them more than they're making now.

It's the exact opposite of reform.

13. Other
Because there are people who won't be able to afford the insurance even with a subsidy and will unfortunately be faced with more hardship through fines. I am one.

A job with health insurance would be preferable.
