Khephra, whose nearly 24/7 work to scour the world's news sources made LBN the most timely news source. It likewise elevated DU from a simple discussion forum to an indispensable source of news at your fingertips. Through his efforts, he broke the hold of MSM (non-news) and total reliance on traditional media for many of us.

Khephra died at the keyboards doing so. How can any other DUer, no matter how much they contribute, top that? At least in my opinion.

LBN has not been the same since Khephra died.

LBN has never recovered from Khephra's absence.

They were key players back in DU's Golden Age. absynthe was tombstoned (unjustly, especially in light of the rudeness that reigns here today) and the Magistrate still posts occasionally, but they really were fun and instructive to follow back in the day.

I'm all for great writing, but geez there is so much to read on the net. What we need now is for people in the know to get out there and confront the SOBs that have been lying and fucking up our country.

This is why I voted DAVID SWANSON! This dude has been out in the trenches protesting the war, and confronting congressional members. He stood up to Conyers demanding answers as to why he backed out on impeachment of Bush, then reported back to us his ridiculous excuses proving that Conyers is just as corrupt as the rest of Congress. He helped illustrate that Congress is just a dog and pony show, good cop bad cop. Now it is time for all of us to confront Congress and throw them all out and start over.

There are thousands upon thousands of dedicated, articulate, passionate DUers working their butts off to contribute to community, provide information and analysis and remain calm and civil while doing so.

Threads like this make me fear that DU is more of a cliquey club than broad and diverse community of contributors treated as equals.

In defense of MrScorpio, I think he meant this to be lighthearted and truly in jest. It has turned into a far more serious endeavor, however--one that cries out for some systematic methods.

Seriously, DU has some faults (as does everything and everyone) but the website itself rocks.

If you don't think we have a far and above superior website, go check out FreeRepublic's 1996 html.

I know that we do a few fundraisers, and then there's the ad revenue but you KNOW that Skinner, EarlG and Elad aren't getting rich off of this place. Not that I'd mind if they did.

The rest of the lineup, I think, would have included Vada Pinson in center, Frank Robinson in right, either Gus Bell or Wally Post in left, John Edwards catching, Don Blasingam at second, and I'm not getting the first baseman out of the long-term file at the moment. Shortstop is a blur also, but it might have been Leo Cardenas.
