11. David Halberstam will be remembered as a contemporary giant
David Halberstam wrote an excellent book of essays titled The Fifties, through which I became acquainted with the work of C. Wright Mills. Mills was an inspiration to me during my years as a labor activist, and I owe David Halberstam a debt of gratitude for an introduction to this giant among American sociologists.

13. Wasn't it PBS that made a mini-series out of it?
GREAT television. Halberstam had an intellect and ability to analyze history better than almost anyone. A true loss for our culture.
