7. yes, it implies the action of democracy
'Democracy is a political government either carried out by the people (direct democracy), or the power to govern is granted to elected representatives (Representative democracy). The term is derived from the Greek: δημοκρατία - (dēmokratía) "the power to the people",<1> which was coined from δῆμος (dêmos) "people" and κράτος (krátos) "power", in the middle of the fifth-fourth century BC to denote the political systems then existing in some Greek city-states, notably Athens following a popular uprising in 508 BC.<2> Even though there is no specific, universally accepted definition of 'democracy',<3> there are two principles that any definition of democracy includes, equality and freedom.<4> These principles are reflected by all citizens being equal before the law, and having equal access to power,<5> and freedom is secured by legitimized rights and liberties, which are generally protected by a constitution.<6><7>'

its an action word.

and?

And that stands for Democratic,
That stands for Democratic.
We've surely got trouble!
Right here in DU City,
Right here!
Gotta figger out a way
To keep the young ones moral after school!
Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble

What's your point? I wish you folks that keep posting this BS would just come right out and give us all the laundry list of what qualifies one as a Democrat in your book.

I think many of you are simply trying to sow dissention and confusion. People have different ideas about what it means to be a Democrat. Get over it!

31. Teamwork denied.

I've begun reacting to a sometimes hostile environment, as have others.

The charge of judging who is a D doesn't seem relevant to me. Maybe it's the background of protesting LBJ's war policies, while being a D before, during, and after.

Do you really not see some "fault lines*" here?

*earthquake reference, I grew up in the west.

43. Well, the thing is this ...

Some people just are a little bit too in love with the *idea* of being in an "underground" movement. They heard about the Underground Railroad when they were kids, thought it sounded nifty, and wanted to grow up to start their own underground ... something, kinda like some kids wanted to be firetrucks, not firefighters, but firetrucks.

I can think of maybe (maybe) half a dozen people on DU who project the sensibility necessary to be a part of a genuine underground movement. We don't hear from them much, which is sorta the point.

Anyway ... there's nothing "underground" about posting on a publicly available website that solicits membership and uses blogads and google-analytics. In fact, using the latter pretty much makes you the exact opposite of "underground." It sounds good, and for the time during which the site was created, it was a good name and concept, and this is not a criticism of the founders at all. But, some of the members go just a wee bit overboard with their fantasy worlds.

...which is a long way of saying I've personally always thought the "Democratic" part was the pertinent term. Given the way the rules are constructed, this would seem to be the logical deduction.

77. I didn't consider that an olive branch. I saw it as you being reasonable
enough to acknowledge a point. It seemed more like terms for some sort of cease fire. Still our board has lost (at least temporarily) a great poster in NanceGreggs. The ideas expressed here that "Democratic" is flame bait or fighting words would be the main reason she is taking a leave. It certainly angers me to see such a great poster being driven off by the venom and vitriol directed against the Democratic party and President on a regular basis. I appreciate that there are posters such as yourself that are willing to end the hostilities but until you guys start policing your own those of us supporting the DEMOCRATIC in DU have been made to feel very unwelcome.

82. Oops, forgot to K&R this. Best conspiracy theory I've heard all week.
Of course I haven't been watching Fox News over the last week, so the bar is set kinda low for now.

But seriously, this thread is very helpful to everyone in DU who's busy looking around for something to be pissed off about.
