I'd have written in Kucinich, or I'd have voted for the McKinney/Clemente ticket. But instead of listening to my head, I allowed myself to be convinced that Obama was something different, and I voted for him instead. I'll never make that mistake again.

I'm hip to the situation.

Although I wouldn't have been as excited and hopeful as I was then.

But...yeah.

And I'd do it again.

at the waste of a movement behind him to make this nation a better place for all.

And I probably would've put less money and volunteer work into his campaign and put it into more progressive organizations instead.

I know I post a lot of negative stuff on this board; I do this in large measure because I hope that by holding their feet to the fire we might wake them up. FDR famously said something like, "I agree with you entirely. Now make me do it."

I"m not disappointed. I knew he was going to do precisely what he has done. That is, be a pacifying smiley face for elite interests over which he has no control. That is what he was groomed for. That is why he was selected. I don't like it. I don't approve of it. But what I knew then and now is that the United States of America isn't the country we've been brought up to believe it is. It is an economic/military empire now. The 'buck' doesn't start or stop with the Executive branch. The Congress and the Senate do not represent the will of the People. Not any more and not for a rather long time, really. The government is under the control of global, corporate economic interests that are completely without ethics or morals of any kind. This has been obvious since 9/11/01 -- and was obvious to some of us even before then.

What I don't understand is why it is taking everyone else on DU so long to figure it out? What do you expect? DEMOCRACY? Give me a break! Not when you allow economic/military interests to get away with treason, mass murder and war crimes in broad daylight. Not when you allow a mass media to lie, distort and obfuscate the truth and keep people's attention focused everywhere except where it needs to be. Of course Barack Obama can't stop it. No ONE person can. No one political party can. It's going to take all of us and it is going to hurt like hell. That's why no one wants to do it. Everyone wants to blame someone else or pass the buck onto the electoral process which has been thoroughly compromised. We're at that point ladies and gentlemen. It is revolution or it is nothing. And revolution begins with what WE do, not with what anyone else does. It begins with US living our principals and standing up for what is right. It is NOT gained by toeing the party line -- any party line. It is gained by having values and living them. It is gained by educating yourself about the truly apocalyptic beast we face and then moving beyond complaining to active resistance -- especially economic resistance. Ultimately it is going to mean civil disobedience on a mass scale. We should have all been out in the streets screaming our bloody heads off years ago.
