Was the Orbitz Hovercraft valet parking ad really that offensive to someone?
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 07:06 PM by Atman
I noticed that Orbitz has re-edited the commercial featuring their spokesman handing off his hovercraft to the valet at some resort. In the original version of the ad, he approaches a couple at the resort and says "Ah, the Hernandez - ez - es," stumbling over the pluralization of a name that ends with a "z" sound. Now he simply says "Ah, the Hernandezes!" Why go to the expense? Did someone actually get their nose out of joint over this? Jeez.

1. I noticed that, too.
It appears that yes, someone whined loudly enough to have it changed.

2. I noticed the edit and wondered the same thing.
If that was changed because of complaints someone needs to pick their battles a little more carefully.

4. I was offended at the placement of the ad...
when it aired on TV during the Balloon Boy escapade. At that point, they found an empty balloon, and everyone thought the kid was a pancake somewhere.

5. Screwing up the pluralization of a non-English name is never a laughing matter...
This is how puppies end up dying! I'm glad someone out there was on the ball. :sarcasm:

6. next stop - fix Sylvester's speech impediment - (sarc)

It didn't mock the name, it was a play on confusion how some names are pluralized. A nephew used to call our neighbor 'Dorisus' because our family always said 'we're going over to Doris's house'... he thought her name was Dorisus.

Silly meek Orbitz - grow a backbone or get out of the business world
