I always looked forward to reading the DUzy Awards on friday nights, or whenever JeffR got around to posting them. He always did a great job with them, and many of us got a lot of laughs/smiles out of them.

I know someone else tried to revive them at one time, but they quit (for reasons unknown to me, I never saw an explanation). I know it can be some time consuming work around here because we have lots of funny people :-)

JeffR, the Godfather of the DUzy's, has given me his blessings (I had to kiss his ring) to revive the DUzy's if I want to tackle it. The big question that remains, though, is:

Do You Want The DUzy Awards Back?

With this being the Democratic Underground, it's only fair that your votes count, and decide whether they return or not.

and I'm guessing the reason they didn't get brought back was because of the sudden realization of what a big job it was. But I would LOVE to see the DUzy's brought back!

The image, I mean. I'm pretty certain I still have the files for the DUzy Award image, but I was really sloppy back then as far as organizing the project goes. I'd be happy to make a new one- I even have some ideas already, from when the last attempt was made to bring it back.

edit: even if you tell me yes right now, it would still take time for me to get my chops back and relearn a few things. It's been a while since I did anything serious with Blender. That said, this would be a great excuse for me to start using Blender again; I've kind of let that slide. PM me if you do decide to do this and want a new Award to headline it.

It provided me with an escape hatch....when the news and things looked bleak I could always escape from the depressing things and have a good laugh or two, and it would cheer me up some.
Funny people are healers and laughter is the medicine.

But I do know it is a big job and that most of us could not do it....but thanks if you can.

It could be a link, like the alert link in each post, but instead of sending the post to a mod, it sends the post to a separate forum, accessible only by the DUZY team? I'm just thinking of ways to make it less work.

I love the DUZY's, and would be thrilled to see them resurrected.

That people could submit a link to a post to, but then I regained my senses. Not because I couldn't do it, but because I figured I couldn't pay for the bandwidth it would take, LOL.

But a simple counter like the rec function would pretty much automate it. Then just query the count for results.

And yes, it was and is a lot of work involved.

You get all the funnies, and it's always hard to keep track.

I made a suggestion to JeffR that he needs to make a database and feed the links through it.

My trophy case is looking a bit threadbare these days.

I haven't been here that long, but I would like to see a DUzy award. Just think, you would be giving me my first.;)

but if you are willing to take it on, I'm sure that would be greatly appreciated.

sure they were good for a laugh, but in that respect I truly think they made DU a more informative place.
