Informants: Vick shot, bludgeoned dogs
Informants: Vick shot, bludgeoned dogs

ATLANTA, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Informants claim former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick drowned, shot and bludgeoned fighting dogs to death, documents indicate.

Summaries of interrogations of a member of Vick's dogfighting ring and with confidential informants conducted by federal investigators were released Friday to WSB-TV, Atlanta, through a Freedom of Information Act request. The broadcaster said they contained claims that Vick killed fighting dogs that didn't perform well by hitting them with shovels and that he got an "adrenaline high while killing the dogs."

The transcripts were compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as investigators probed dog fighting allegations against Vick.

They also indicated that a Delta Airlines employee was fired for trying to "get Vick around security" while the dog fighting investigation was at its peak, and that the ex-quarterback hired the fired employee himself because he "felt responsible," WSB reported.

I hope if I'm ever convicted of mistreating animals by torturing and killing them, I'll have the glowing-phrases of the media fawning over me. It'll help me during my rehabilitation stage. Then I can become a productive member of society again, after I "paid my dues" and received my "courage award."

37. It makes me want to weep
for these poor creatures.

My grandmother was from the country and was blessed with the equivalent for animals what plant lovers call a "green thumb". Give her some skinny little runt and a few weeks... it would thrive. She taught me so much, and I my companions have been dogs, cats, hamsters, geese, ducks and rabbits (as an adult at various times, in my childhood all at once) throughout my life.

What I can't comprehend is the callousness of this "person". I have a son, and I can't vouch for how I would have reacted had my child acted so viciously.

It makes me feel what I imagine parents feel when they realize their child had potential for contact with a child molester in the neighborhood.

And, it makes me think very poorly of those whose obsession with football blinds them to this man's depravity and makes them all too willing to "credit" him, while chastising the rest of us for not forgiving Vick his "sins." Damn shitty priorities, if you ask me.

Football is not a "normal" job where you can serve your time and go back to what you were doing... pro athletes are role models, whether they like it or not, and any team that would take him has some totally F'd priorities!!! :grr:

Edited on Mon Jan-11-10 09:45 AM by ProfessorGAC
You may be telling a truth here, but the societal facts are what they are. Pro athletes are role models and cherry picking the bad apples (intentionally mixed metaphor) to show they're not is irrelevant.

74. Your efforts are almost as amusing as they are ineffectual.
Outrage at Vick, over what he did to those dogs, stems from an unrealistic expectation of "moral superiority"?

If simply not torturing and killing dogs is all that is required for "moral superiority" then I must be the Pope.

I held my little pup to as i read this story and immediately thought of a regular at the dog park, T-T a pit mix who had her ears cut off with scissors so she could be a bait dog! She is the sweetest dog you would ever meet and it pains me everytime I think about the future she could have had.Luckily she has a very caring owner who loves her very much now!

Michael Vick is a sicko and should be not be allowed around animals or children. I wish our society wasn't so accepting of his his sick behavior.

17. I'm so glad the Eagles lost yesterday...
and as a 50+ year fan, I made my sentiments known after they picked Vick up when no one else would have him. I was excoriated by some of the slimier members here, as "coming around when they win" and all that crap. This guy is a pure sociopath and the Team is disgraceful...I can't believe that they did this for absolutely no football reason, but b/c our coach is such a creep himself, he pulled this stunt to get attention. Well, the hated Cowboys sure made short work of my (former) team and I can only hope and pray that Reid (the coach) McNabb(the QB) and Vick are all gone next year...but Reid just signed a 3 year extension...so I'm gonna need Divine Intervention.

24. They Deliberately Destroyed the Whole Case for This Prick
The Virginia county District Attorney (whoever it was that first had this case, a local authority), was told right from the start by informants, that Vick was extremely sadistic, enjoyed torturing the dogs, got them wet and then electrocuted them, shot them, stabbed them, beat them, kicked them, all of this slowly and prolonged, as a fun event. The bait dogs are restrained and muzzled, then attacked, chewed on, ripped apart, so every day of their lives is premeditated torture--and informants said right from the start how Vick organized those sessions, too, and was there enjoying it. This original local authority never did anything, and finally, much later, the U.S. District Attorney for that area finally took the case on, after many, many public protests and questions about why they were not. Then, when they finally did--they dropped and did not pursue the most serious charges, which the informants had provided proof of, and risked their lives to tell them about in court. They minimized, trivialized, "privileged" and fucked this whole case from beginning to end, never even prosecuting the main point of the organized dog-fighting torture and killing. Now, the whole thing is over; dicked.

92. Thanks for raising this point.
The bungle that was the prosecution in this case is often overlooked in the Pro-Vick or Anti-Vick emotional responses.

34. yes but that's not enough
i am sure the same people who cried for clemency for tookie are the ones here who think vick should be punished for life.

he DID HIS TIME.

he did evil stuff, and he paid a price for it.

but pro football is not a social club for the moral elite.

it's about... wait for it... people who play football well

78. Football is a product that is sold to consumers, who are free to be disgusted by this asshole.
Just as they are free to withhold their support of whichever sorry-ass team has hired his services.

Doesn't mean he's no longer a vile piece of gutter filth, however.

29. Oh, but he grew up poor, in a bad neighborhood!
Edited on Mon Jan-11-10 02:12 AM by Withywindle
We all know that people from poor backgrounds just can't help it! We should forgive poor people who are sociopaths and let them go on doing their thing, because of course EVERYONE from the ghetto is used to getting off on torturing animals to death, even when they become filthy rich. It's a "cultural" thing. :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

(for the record, I think this line of argument is as classist and racist as it gets. Way to insult the millions of people who grew up in poverty and yet DON'T consider such wanton sadism to be a good time.)

You can't blame "those people" for being "savage" when they're just "products of their environment."

:eyes:

And yet most of the claims of racism get hurled at the anti-Vick crowd. Go figure.

Why should we question the NFL's jurisprudence and psychiatric expertise? That goddamned football won't move itself down the field.

Because he's had to overcome so much.

He's a piece of shit no matter how many pretty awards are put on the putrid pile. His apologists here should watch Dogtown.

62. Sounds like what happens to other animals during hunting.
Vick should've worn hunter orange and eaten some of those pooches then he'd have the cover of legitimacy for his cruelty.

They don't usually electrocute deer slowly and laugh about it. :(

Is that what you would call it? He will never serve his time for what he did to these noble creatures. Never--except through karma, which should be coming his way fairly soon.

96. Let it go guys....it's time to move on
Soon we'll probably hear a story about how he plucked the toe nails from the dogs while they were alive. It still won't make a difference at this point.

We know he brutalized and killed dogs. More gory details at this point will not bring the dogs back to life. They're DEAD.

It's time to move on.

98. Aren't rehabilitation and redemption liberal ideals?
A guy commits a crime, serves his time and pays his debt to society. But several DUers seem to think that is not enough, and that he also must never again be allowed to be employed in his chosen line of work. If Robert Byrd can go from being a Grand Wizard in the Klu Klux Klan to being a US Senator then surely Vick should be allowed to play football again.
