On NPR this morning...
a new invention to send an audio message right to your brain. I'm not kidding. Procter & Gamble and others are researching this and it is already used in Europe. Apparently, you could be walking the aisles in the supermarket and this audio message, say for cornflakes, (the example they gave this morning) would hit your brain and you would end up thinking of (and buying) cornflakes. This was reported as if there was nothing amiss with the idea. If GWB had this, we'd all be toast.

I looked for a site for this and couldn't find one. But, believe me, it was reported this a.m!

1. I say this story in today's paper, it scared the devil out of me.
It would turn us into the ultimate 'puppets on a string'. Scares the heck out of me. Next thing you know, there will be audio messages sent from telephone polls in your neighborhood. Think about this invention for a while and see where it leads you.

2. It leads nowhere good! What surprised me was how
nonchalant the reporting was...like there was nothing wrong with this...and it was NPR.

4. NPR has taken a big right turn
in the past few years. Sadly, it's not the intelligent voice of reason it used to be.

6. audio to your brain
Any audio being transmitted into my brain, will just have to wait in line. I already have more than enough voices in my brain, fortunately, they mostly say things like : "you feel tired, take a nap" " now would be a good time to scratch, no, not there, THERE" "If you open the bag a potato chips and eat some, the rest will get stale, so eat all of them" and my favorite: "go ahead and post something silly on D.U., they won't come over and thump you"

8. I remember some Techie DUers posting about this last year.
I remember being freaked out about it then, and I still am. Apparently they can cause real pain by manipulating these devices, and the guy next to you wouldn't be able to hear or see anything.
