Poll question: Who do YOU want responsible for rebuilding Haiti
Big job. Gonna take a LOT of money and a long-term commitment. I hope the people of Haiti are given the opportunity to rebuild their own country. But they will need help

4. The Haitian people, with help from all of the entities listed in your poll.
It's their country.

Give them the money & the material and let them decide.

6. The problem is they didn't build their homes to withstand earthquakes
so maybe it's not such a good idea without supervision.

12. Sorry, I guess I should have made my post clearer:
I would like the entire first world (and I'm including BRIC) to donate the money, materials, and provide all needed engineering and technical help to the people of Haiti rebuild their nation. Homes, infrastructure, etc. should be rebuilt to the safety standards that we enjoy.

We should provide anything that they need and/or request, but not impose our will upon them. What precise entities do that does not really matter to me.

14. Not A Lot Survives A 7.0 Quake
Especially one so close to a populated area and close to the ground. Dare I say how many apartment buildings and garages in our cities would collapse under such a stress. Granted, better construction materials may have limited the destruction, but short of state-of-the art design, we'd see these results in too many places around the globe.

This is an international community matter...and using any and all ways to provide emergency funds and loans to get life back to "normal". Then, it's looking at the country's economic infrastructure...what can be done to help build up agriculture and industry that can help this country stand on its own. Self determination is the ultimate empowerment.

7. Its the Hatian people's country but their government is pretty corrupt
do you give the money to their government for them to pocket? Who do you give the money to if not the government? Do you really think other countries should then take charge? After all Haiti is an independent country and sovereign even if broken and abused by its own government.

20. The UN is mostly an instrument of US policy -- which hasn't been great
for Haiti.

The private sector is what wrecked Haiti in the first place. Every NGO you can think of is there AND when a disaster happens, they take are of their people, not the people.

Imho, Latin America, who has the most experience surviving vulture capitalists, will help Haiti the most and it's a good thing that Latin America has never been more united for this very purpose.
