George Clooney to host telethon for Haiti aid

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Hollywood actor George Clooney will host a telethon on MTV next week to raise funds for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, the music network said on Thursday.

The event will be broadcast on all MTV Network channels on Friday, January 22, when Clooney is expected to be joined by as yet unnamed pop music and movie stars.

Haiti-born musician Wyclef Jean has already raised over $1 million for the aid effort via the Twitter network, and is in the country "giving aid and assessing the situation", according to his website.

2. Just what they DON'T need.
Who the hell is going to donate to that? Maybe if he got in his batman Halloween costume...

The idiot can't even talk without bobbing his head around like he's still on a soap opera. Can't they find a REAL actor?

8. I certainly won't donate if the host isn't entertaining
The people of Haiti won't get my money, and it will all be George Clooney's fault! :silly:

9. "Competent" would be a good start.
And WTF is up with Obama asking Dubya to help. It will cost more in booze to involve him than he could possibly raise in donations.

10. I would kick in some dough to see Dubya hammered on TV.
Call up George Soros and tell him $10,000 in Haitian aid will buy W a shot of tequila.

After he gets five or six in him, make him do stunts (write a signing statement, read the Pledge of Allegiance, ride a bike).

Now THAT'S entertainment.

11. What do you mean - you had EIGHT YEARS of watching the shrub hammered on TV.
"Shish ish Amerksa. Ya knows what I means?"

I don't think we EVER saw him sober.

12. Quite possibly the ONLY thing * has ever done well is raise money...
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 07:09 PM by hughee99
He knows a lot of people who have money, and has convinced them to give some up before. If *'s role will be fundraising, I think he'll probably do a pretty good job at that. He will likely fail at ANY other task assigned to him, even if it's just putting on his own socks.

20. I read somewhere that ABC and NBC are planning on broadcasting this as well
While MTV is the main sponsor of this it sounds like they are allowing other networks to run it as well.
