The business of the US government is still business...
US business still hasn't secured long term control/access to Iraqi oil...
Regardless of Iraqi and US opposition to the occupation the US military isn't leaving until US business's strategic (i.e. long term profit potential from oil) is secured.
In other words, our military is never going to be far enough away from that strategic interest to come back in a flash and defend it. Or, as one Democratic presidential candidate indicates--we are never gonna really leave.
3. That wasn't weaseling. It's a precis, it's getting down to the bottom line
that the decision makers are actually using. There's no high faluting political log-rolling or back room dealing going on in what I said, it really is the way the national leaders are thinking.
