Stupid is as stupid does - Danny Glover
Strange bed fellows, Preacher Pat + Actor Danny

On Haiti's EQ: "When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I'm sayin'?"

2. That's not even coherent ...

As asinine as it was, at least I knew what Pat was saying.

Glover seems to be suggesting that global climate change is causing earthquakes.

5. I don't think that's it ...
"Glover seems to be suggesting that global climate change is causing earthquakes."

Actually, I got a more "supernatural" impression from Glover on this one. He seemed to be saying that mother nature, some other deity, or simple karma is getting back at us for not addressing climate change in Copenhagen.

Why mother nature would exert her wrath on poor Haitians, whose per capita emissions are a fraction of a fraction of ours.

35. He was officer Riggs from Top Gun or something
He believes in some good causes and the occasional flaky one.

To give due credit to Mr Glover, it is possible that global environmental changes caused by pollution may cause large scale disasters, if they haven't already. If such is the cause, Haiti may well be a good place for the world's response forces to gain much needed experience.

30. I believe you nailed it, Glover is obviously emotional about this, but he's referring
to more mass casualty events and the Caribbean along with other Island nations would be most vulnerable to catastrophic global warming.

The tragedy we're seeing with this earthquake would become commonplace if global warming isn't addressed in an serious, aggressive manner.

8. Totally NOT "bedfellows". The intent is totally different.
Glover is trying to blame global warming. Robertson is blaming the Haitian people for bringing this on themselves.

Big damned diff.

Glover may not be correct, but he's not an insane ass.

15. I'd be interested in a little more context
It appears that Glover is saying that the effects of earthquakes in the Caribbean might be enhanced due to rising ocean levels. The quote, however, is such a stand-alone snippet that it's difficult to place precisely what Glover might be saying. It sure looks dumb all naked like that; I wonder what might have come before and after that was left out, and if the good folks at Huffington Post had reasons for paring it down unrelated to making Glover sound foolish.

20. LISTEN TO HIS WHOLE STATEMENT HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2ft5JkNWJA&feature=player_embedded

What he says is (paraphrasing):

"We need more than one hospital ship from the US. The other island nations need to take heed because this type of event could happen to them because of Global Warming."

I think it's quite a stretch to claim that Glover therefore thinks that Global Warming causes earthquakes.

43. Sounds like he was talking in the abstract about disasters in general
of course, the majority of Americans- and especially the "moderates" on this site and elsewhere have lost- if they ever had- the ability to think abstractly -so it's not surprising that they not only wouldn't get it, but would rush in to show off their mental "prowess" and express their indignation.

46. I would like to think he was suggesting climate change cause the earthquake, flaky as that theory is
But it sounds more like he is suggesting that the earth, or nature, or some "force" punished humanity in Haiti for failure to act in Copenhagen.

In a different league than what Robertson said, but in the same ballpark.
