1. One can only hope this isn't nature herself trying to make a Scott Brown reference.

2. Very cool
Elephants are among the select few with the self awareness required to pass the mirror test.

7. In a double reverse
A Republican Senator from California in the 1980's nicknamed "sleepy" wrote in his earlier days a fine scholarly work that people would do well to read again today:

Deals and analyzes symbolism, among other things.

12. What other animals pass the test? I keep trying to encourage my cats
to see themselves in the mirror but not luck.

16. I believe I read somewhere
that animals like cats and dogs don't recognize themselves in the mirror, not because they are not intelligent enough, but rather are hard wired through scents and smells recognition and not really sight as we know it, hence, dogs saying hello by sniffing another dogs butt, their...um...droppings, and other such things.

17. That makes some sense. Whenever I walk a dog (I don't have one) I always figure
they are picking up gossip when they sniff the dirty snow.

"I'm just saying 'A Happy Birthday'," said Owl carelessly.
"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed by it.

8. Wow!
I was somewhat taken aback by what seemed like the violence of the mother, but as I kept watching the video, I could see that she was not violent, but actually desparate to get her baby to live.

Awesome video!

11. One day when humans have evolved enough to lose some of our conceit
I believe elephants will be among the first of non-humans whose status as persons is recognized.
