Rush Limbaugh. How can we make him go away?
I say sex tape. Yeah, I know it's repulsive, but just think if he was banging away on tape a dead body that he dug up from the cemetery. The pet cemetery. Come on, it would end his career! We would all win! (After we'd gouge out our eyes)

2. Yeah. But that would also be murder.
I don't believe in violence. Make love, not war.

11. Well, according to the anti-choice people, that is a reasonable defense
for murder - a perceived threat.

15. I never said *I* would do it
The OP asked how he could be stopped, and I offered one of countless plausible answers. The bullet in question could be self-inflicted for all I know.

17. Not bad!
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 03:52 AM by Zomby Woof
Took you nearly 4 years on DU to come out of your Rush-lovin' conservative closet. We love watching that happen here. One never knows what the tipping point will be. Apparently, as hundreds of thousands of Haitians suffer in ways you cannot imagine, you seem to be frosting your cookies an awful lot for the Oppressed Multi-Millionaire and Overfed Pedophile that is Rush Limbaugh.

Go sell your crazy boo-hoo-hooing on Free Republic. We ain't buying it here.

8. Reregulate Radio...
And no, not the Fairness Doctrine. This is a total revisiting of Telcom '96 that allowed corporations like Cheap Channel to own thousands of stations; many that carry Rushbo rather than local ownership and/or programming. This monopoly ensures pigboy gets heard in every market and usually on the most powerful station. It's this protection that gives him the ability to spew his bile without any fear of being held responsible...and if anything those bosses loves when he spews as it draws attention to their dying stations.

It's time to take back the public airwaves by limiting the number of stations a company can own, give preference to local owners in securing or challenging existing licenses and once again require stations to present news and public service programming that provides valuable information and a diversity of voices on the airwaves.

The "saving grace" is radio is on the verge of bankruptcy. They're experiencing their own real estate bust as inflated license values are falling like a rock, commercial revenues fade away as listeners do (many prefering their IPOD or Internet or Cable to the drivel on most radio dials) and major debts rolled up by these companies who turned the public airwaves into a gambling casino. Unlike Wall Street there's no bailout coming their way and this year will be a painful one...already several companies have gone Chapter 11 and more are expected.

Rushbo's days are limited...both due to the abuse his body surely has taken and the greed that has ruined radio and could see a lot of these stations go up for sale or off the air in the year to come.

16. If people wanted to listen to others, guess what? They'd tune in.
People wouldn't have to be forced to hear what YOU want them to hear.

That is, in a FREE society.

18. They Tune Out...
In many small and medium markets the dial is fully controlled by corporates. It's destroyed the industry...draining it of a lot of experienced talent and replacing it with satellites and hard drives. People are tuning out...a big reason why Rushbo and his ilk are trying to make as much noise as possible. Sadly in many parts of the country there is only one political viewpoint on their radio...and again, surveys and revenue figures are saying they are tuning out. It's the free market at work and its resulting in the ensuing bankruptcies.

People will tune in to other voices, if their accessible. Internet and Satellite radio are still on the fringes thus those who dominate the public airwaves still hold a big advantage.

20. Sure
That's why Rush has 22 million+ listeners a day, and Air America went belly-up. Keep believing, and I mean that sincerely because I don't want to crush your dreams.

Have a good night/morning. :)

21. D'oh!
After all the crap that has happened over the past 3.5 years you have been on here - it took Rush's psychopathic outbursts over Haiti to push you over the edge? You are fully out now with that comment, LOL.

22 million people is a lot of stupid. Unwelcome to DU!

22. And Your Source For Rushbo's Numbers...
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 04:04 AM by KharmaTrain
Fact is there is none...that's a manufactured number that is easily debunked. There hasn't been a national rating of Rushbo or any national talk radio show in years. Those numbers were cumulative...meaning the number of total listeners in a week...thus one person tuning in 5 days is counted five times. It's a classic example of statistics can lie when liars use statistics. Go ahead and look for an Arbitron survey that verifies these numbers...you can't. These numbers have been bantered around for years despite the large drop in radio listening over the past decade...but the corporate media cite it and it's become "fact".

Air America is still alive...I was listening to Ron Reagan on there the other day. There's also Jones Radio that has Ed Schultz who is one of the few bright lights in talk radio...still adding affiliates. There's also millions who listen to public radio...which isn't measured by the ratings and thus "invisible". These are stations that air Amy Goodman and BBC News.

You're not shattering any dreams I have...I'm gladly retired from the radio world but still talk with many inside that world. Seems every other day there's a "muzzle Rushbo" or "boycott Rushbo" thread...I'm just sharing what I'm seeing and hearing...and trying to offer some creative suggestions. Isn't that what a discussion board is supposed to be about?

Cheers...

27. Rush is everywhere because of media ownership chains.
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 07:55 AM by mmonk
Not becuase everybody thinks he's great and everybody thing thinks liberals suck. In what ways does he appeal to you and in what ways does progressive talk does not appeal to you? And guess what, liberal or progressive radio goes way beyond Air America. Air America is what rightwingers call all progressive radio for some reason.

As for your pet cemetery idea,
we'd just end up with thousands of tea-baggers carrying shovels and twice the stench.

26. Yeah, right
Like anybody watching Countdown is going to start listening to Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh was getting high ratings long before Countdown even existed.

Ed Schultz goes after the drugster pretty hard, too. Why no accusations against him?

Keith and Ed are both providing an important public service: Making the public aware of the horrible things that the RW media is spewing.

13. Unless he gets really sick or dies....
I don't see him going away any time soon, evil people like Rush seem to live for eternity. He'll be running his vile, fascist mouth until the day he dies only to be replaced by some other asshole, so even in death his words will echo.

Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 04:29 AM by yodoobo
I hear more people on the left talking about Limbaugh, than I do those on the right.

Media folks thrive on publicity. Stop giving it to him (free of charge).

him so much free air time, I'm really getting frustrated by it. Rush loves it and eats it up, starve the beast.

25. We can't.
Long ago, he tapped into a permanent market in the USA: prejudice and fear. As long as there are people in the United States who are fearful or prejudiced or want someone to do their thinking for them, Rush Limbaugh has an audience. It doesn't matter what he does. He will always have listeners.

28. Here's a way to turn up the heat. Take a page from rightwing hate
groups with billboard advertising. Call him out for his hate speech and lies in the most visible way. That will put pressure on the local member of these radio chains in your city to change their format.
