If Brown wins, anybody who is celebrating on Du
should be ashamed of themselves. And in my opinion should be alerted on! I say this as one who is disappointed in Obama and the Democrats so far, but it would be crazy to applaud a republican win on Tuesday.

1. If Brown wins, anybody who is celebrating on DU
will be tombstoned.

Immediately.

Bank it.

2. I certainly won't be celebrating if that happens.
This should set off big, loud alarm bells in the White House.

6. Those alarm bells
should have gone off in November after what happened in New Jersey and Virginia. 30-point swings in a single year, regardless of the candidates, are an indication of something that should not be ignored.

When the present effort fails -- and it must fail -- we'll just come back stronger, this time with single-payer.

Of course, that will be defeated, too, but it will be a much more righteous, nay, glorious, defeat.

And is there anything more satisfying than a really righteous loss? I don't think so,

I figure that in thirty years after two more defeats, the bill that gets defeated that time will actually create an American National Health Service, staffed by civil servants, with bricks and mortar belonging to the state -- well, actually it will only call for the creation of one, because that bill will have just got defeated, but you catch my drift.

Now losing a vote on a health care reform that sweeping -- I can't imagine how any defeat could be more righteous or more glorious than that one. I hope God spares me and I live to see that loss.

But losing that vote lies far in the future. We have to start small, by losing votes on less comprehensive plans now, and gradually increase the scale of the plans that we can't get passed.

Now people will carp, and say "What about the uninsured and uninsurable today?" That's just a lack of vision. My plan, in addition to being perfect, would of course also provide for a National Day of Commemoration for all the un- and underinsured who died in the meantime, in recognition of their completely avoidable suffering.

I'm sure they realize the place their sacrifice plays in our inexorable march towards a truly optimal solution to the problem of health care, and won't be resentful. At all.

Do you think they'd like to be on a commemorative stamp? Or is something tasteful and not too showy on the Mall in Washington more appropriate?

34. You do three things:
Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 01:35 PM by sharesunited
1. You lower the age of Medicare eligibility to zero.

2. You properly schedule and fund Medicare reimbursements.

3. You federally preempt state licensing of medical professionals to require acceptance of Medicare patients as a condition of licensure.

You adjust the "co-pay "requirements so it doesn't cost over $300 per month to be protected from nasty surprises and lawsuits.

9. K&R
I, too, am disappointed with Obama and the DLC Dems in the Senate.. but not disappointed enough to celebrate a Repuke victory. Even a DLC Dem is better than any Repuke.. anyone celebrating a Brown victory Tuesday should expect a pizza delivery.

10. Is pointing out apathy the same as celebrating?
how about claiming that this was a very poorly run campaign on the part of the party apparatus? is that the same as celebrating

If the Dems on the national scene continue to act as they have in the past year, apathy will wreck us come November.

It's media spin and ReTHUG spin so that when Coakley wins they'll say the race was close so the Health Care Bill must not pass.

20. This sounds ridiculous.
I've read a lot of posts in the last few days, none of them are celebrating Brown's win. He wins, everyone loses.
I have heard and have pontificated on the results of something that awful happening. Seems a lot of people are
putting words in there peoples mouths.

21. I haven't seen anyone on DU rooting for Brown yet... can't imigine who here would celebrate his win.
There have been quite a few who think Coakley is not a perfect choice or could be handling her campign much better... but I've seen NOBODY say "I'd vote for Brown" or that "Brown is the better choice". Not sure where the source is for all this reactionary and alarmist posting about Brown supporters on DU.

27. If that happens, they'll almost certainly be tombstoned.
I can't imagine another outcome.

It's one thing to complain about our candidate's handling of issues and the campaign. Another entirely to entertain defeat gleefully.

I still think she'll win it, and if she doesn't, we're hurt.
