"Hey people die in war..." - RW Talking point....
"What do you expect...it is ugly business. That is why they call it war. People get killed."

And they are perfectly okay with that.

3. And besides
they were volunteers, they knew when they joined where they were going and what they'd be doing, most of them are lower class, and some of them are felons, who are only killing Islamofacists so what if some of those are only 5 are we to let them grow up and follow us here to kill us cause you that is all each and everyone of them live for, our point being

"Why should you care" If you are a good patriotic Christian (we do accept Jews for now) American you don't Quick look over there

5. Interesting that you should bring this up
I heard these exact sentiments on Washington Journal this morning. Sometimes callers on this program also point out that the U.S. has a VOLUNTARY military and that soldiers are well aware they could lose their lives. I fail to comprehend what is voluntary about signing up in hopes of getting a little education money to better ones life. I realize not everyone signs up in the military for education but............

9. Gee ... and all that faux concern about our troops going into Haiti
to restore a Democratically-elected President back to power ... all those screams from Repukes in 1993 ... I guess that they really didn't mean it ... and not one drop of any US service person's blood was shed ...

12. That's right.
That's why you ONLY start a war with a DAMN GOOD REASON.

That's what several million of us took to the streets to try to tell those thugs in late 2002 & early 2003, but the media blacked us out while POS Bush lied that he was pursuing diplomatic avenues with Iraq and that war was a last resort.

Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 10:09 AM by LynnTheDem
it's an ugly business. That's why they call it terrorist attacks. People get killed.

Now forget 911 and go shopping.

Americans will have to learn to live with occasional spectacular attacks.

Like Northern Ireland.

********

Yes, the idiocy & hypocricy are astounding. That's why rightwingnuts are a minority, even in America.

15. I really get annoyed
when they go all hypocritical and say, "But no one wants them to die." Or "It's unfortunate that innocent people die and no one likes it, but oh well."

I always ask "So if someone bombed and invaded the US and killed or seriously maimed a relative of yours, you'd just shrug and be cool with it?" But they are incapable of putting themselves in someone else's shoes.

17. A RW caller into our local AAR affiliate said exactly that
The station lets people call in and plays their comments on the air and the guy actually said, "I'm okay with people dying halfway around the world as long as my children are safe."

Nevermind that the "war on terror" is actually fomenting more terrorism.

Nevermind that the annual report issued by the State Department, Patterns of Global Terrorism, is no longer being published since it has shown a steady increase in international terrorist attacks.

Nevermind that many of those people dying halfway around the world are Americans.

Nevermind that Iraqi children are dying, too.

23. Why didn't that caller just come totally clean and say...
"All right look, I'm a miserable, insecure little sociopathic prick, ok? I get steely hard over the the idea that our military kicks some fuckin' ass for me vicariously. It makes me feel powerful. I don't care if our young soldiers or some foreigners halfway across the world gotta die for me to have that satisfaction. I don't care if any of the more respectable justifications have all be proven false. So what if all the stuff about making my kids safe by fighting them over there is a bunch of bullshit? I don't care. It's all true cuz I want it to be true! So there. Just make me feel like a man, goddamnit!"

25. I got that same impression from what he said on his OTHER calls, too
He's called a few times before with statements about how "people die in war, that's what war is" and how liberals need to shut up and toe the line because we need to support the troops, blah, blah, blah.

The good thing is that a lot of other callers have tried to educate him. They've responded with statistics about how much money has so far been spent, how many US soldiers have been killed and wounded, how he's conflating being antiwar with being anti-military, the list goes on. Most of them have also mentioned that each soldier over there is someone's child, too, so even though his kids are safe, other people's aren't.

I like to think that he's ashamed of what he said now, but he may not be capable of that kind of self-reflection.
