LOWELL -- Vicki Kennedy popped into the Owl Diner during yesterday's breakfast rush to tell patrons that Martha Coakley is the candidate who will continue her late husband's legacy in the U.S. Senate.

Kennedy, the widow of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, predicted Coakley will win big over Republican state Sen. Scott Brown today -- if she can get her supporters to the polls.

"The stakes have never been higher," said Kennedy, who spent most of yesterday stumping for Coakley, the state's Democratic attorney general. "This is really about the future of our commonwealth, the future of our country, and whether we're going to keep moving forward or whether we're going to turn back."

Accompanied by U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, Kennedy introduced herself to diners and engaged several of the restaurant's employees in a lengthy discussion about health-care reform.
