Let's Hear From Our "Kill The Bill" Friends on the RW Victory In MA

So, what do those who wanted to kill the health care bill think of this victory? Is this in a sense a victory for the kill the bill adherents?

I'm not blaming them. I AM interested in their strategies for moving forward to get a health bill passed.

Do you think this is an opportunity to get a more progressive version passed? Should the Ds call for an early vote and pass the thing before Brown is seated? Is reconciliation the only route now, and does that mean a more progressive bill out of conference because we only need 51 votes?

I would specify which bill the "kill the billers" want killed. The "kill the bill" crowd likes the House bill, or at least to incorporate the best provisions of the House bill into the final product.

Right-wingers want the status quo, also known as doing nothing. Big difference.

The house bill was labeled a corporate give away as well. It was only after the senate version came out that many started thinking the house bill wasnt so bad after all. The reality though is that the senate bill isnt as terrible as people made it out to be either.

Dean was the first major Dem. to propose killing a bill, and it was the Senate one.

start listening to us because they aren't safe if they continue to ignore us on the public option. They need us, don't they?

the ONLY healthcare bill I will ever be satisfied with is on that covers EVERY citizen, is administered by the government, and doesn't cost one dime out of pocket, save for a small co-pay of $5 or less for all prescriptions.

Anything else is NOT healthcare reform and is NOT acceptable.

And some progress did seem to be coming out of the House/Senate negotiations. Now, I fear we could get the Senate bill with no changes. Only other option, if there is courage to do it would be for the House to pass the Senate bill and do a sidecar bill under reconciliation. I would wary of the Senate, though, and have serious doubts if they'd follow through.

I guess. Don't like the Senate bill, don't want it made into law. I could accept the House bill. I am not a Hoyer-ite that believes anything is better than nothing.

As for the vote in Mass, yeah it sucks, I guess, but I don't live there so it's neither a victory or a defeat for me. A peaceful election was held and the results published. Absent any vote tampering, the voters of Mass have spoken and they say Brown.

As for what it means nationally, our wonderful Dems in Washington couldn't pass gas with 61 friggin senators so having 59 is just as well. They were given a mandate by the people in 08 and by golly they better get on it or some republican or worse could be sitting in their comfy little leather chair in 12.

We have the majorities in both houses and the presidency. EVERY major piece of legislation should be passed through the reconciliation process. Health care, ending the wars, job creation, financial reform, etc. Cram it down their throats. The more progressive, the better. The pukes wanna filibuster? Let em. Televise it. 24/7. Play for keeps. I think you get what I mean.

I don't know that reconciliation is our only option with future legislation, though I suspect it is, that is what we should be doing anyway. Because we can. Get it done Congress.
