Wait...since when did Massachusetts voting for a Republican in a STATEWIDE race...
....mean that Obama's agenda is doomed, the Dems will be thrown out of power, and the GOP will return to it's former "glory?"

Can some fellow DU'ers help me on this one? This was one statewide election where a Senate seat was up for grabs, and the Republican beat the Dem apparently because the Dem ran a shitty campaign and wasn't supported by local Democrats.

Already, Reputhug mouthpieces are saying, "there will be a blood bath in 2010 on the Dems side", to quote a poster on another forum.

Yet the GOP is still getting crazier and crazier....

1. The media are enablers and are just gleeful! They're promoting
the rethug pov, as usual. Well, most of them, 'cept the sane ones.

6. I know it's not good, but I don't think it's the apocalypse for the Dems....
...that some people would like to portray it as.

7. People are pissed at a lot of things. Unemployment, the financial crowd,
the housing market, the national debt, and burn out on health care. I believe this is simply a lot of people showing their frustration. If nothing changes by Sept or Oct. November will be a bloodbath for the incumbants, and since most of them are Dems, well....

8. The reasoning is that if the GOP could pick up a Senate seat in a Dem stronghold like MA,
then it could be a harbinger of a bunch of other wins like that elsewhere.

If the reason is that an incredibly shitty candidate ran a horrible noncampaign and that's why she lost, it really doesn't apply to other races unless they have equally shitty candidates.

If the real reason is lefty anger at Democrats or not wanting the healthcare bill more than shitty candidate/campaign, then it could be a harbinger of many other races.

10. I don't know. I still don't see how
it is a GOP win. Brown ran without adding the "R" next to his name. He called himself an Independent, he thanked the Independents for voting for him (I never heard him thanking the Repukes and the GOP) and swore he would be an independent vote in the Senate. His crowd is angry, fearful and distrusting, hell they sounded angry at his victory speech. Brown starts on the NO wagon with his party his voters are going to be pretty pissed. He doesn't vote with the repukes and they will be pissed. Might be worth sitting back and watch him dance with out pissing off one of his partners.

14. Interesting!
Thanks for adding that.

I've seen similar posts from MA people who described his campaign the same way. Makes you think twice about saying it's a 'Republican' win.

16. Steele tried it here.
The only difference was Steele tried to get people to think he was a Democrat. It didn't work for Steele but he probably did pick up extra votes by doing it. They really do think we are all that stupid.

It is not all that new.

18. You'd think MA never voted Republican ever. Romney 2002, anyone? William Weld? Paul Cellucci?
Reagan won it twice in the 80s.

Massachusetts has shown that it will occasionally vote Republican, particularly if the Democratic candidate is pathetic.

19. You don't get much bluer than Massachusetts.....
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 04:13 AM by BooScout
To dismiss this loss and blame it on shitty campaigning is dangerous. That seat has been held by a Dem for a long, long, long time. The state is left of center....yet they just swung to the right at the drop of a hat.......ignoring that will not bode well for the Democratic Party.
